Does anyone have a list of the "screen shot" label NES games? The ones with "____ series" on them?

Duck Hunt
Stack Up
Urban Champion
Kung Fu
Super Mario Bros.
Balloon Fight
Ice Climber
Wrecking Crew
Soccer
Tennis
Volleyball
Baseball
10 Yard Fight
Pro Wrestling
Donkey Kong

and that's all that I can think of right now.

I think I'm going to try to collect them all...DK Jr. Math isn't one is it? I hope not :)

I used to have all of these...here, I'll organize them by series.

Action Series:
Super Mario Bros.
Kung Fu
Urban Champion
Balloon Fight
Ice Climber
Clu Clu Land
Pinball

Sports Series:
(Ice Hockey and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out are also part of this series)
Soccer
Tennis
Volleyball
Baseball
10 Yard Fight
Pro Wrestling
Slalom
Golf
Rad Racer

Programmable Series:
Excitebike
Mach Rider
Wrecking Crew

Arcade Classics Series:
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Donkey Kong 3
Mario Bros.
Popeye

Zapper Series:
(Gotcha! Is part of this series even though it was made by LJN...)
Hogan's Alley
Wild Gunman
Duck Hunt
Gumshoe

Robot Series:
Gyromite
Stack-Up

Adventure Series:
Kid Icarus
Metroid

Educational Series:
DK Jr. Math

I added DK Jr. and Wild Gunman...for some reason I have this feeling like 1 game is missing from the Sports series, but there probably isn't.

Thanks CY! Wow, I have a long way to go...experienced NES collectors, would you say that most of these games can be acquired fairly easily?

I need all of these except Excitebike. Anyone want to trade?

There are 33 pixelated label/box games: 30 black-box and 3 silver-box. The toughest stuff to obtain would be Stack-up complete (frequently on ebay but $150+ needed) and the DK Jr box (damn near impossible to find).

Hehe, I love those old school pixelated labeled games. Balloon fight is probably my fav of them all.

I call them Pixellated Label games too. Didn't we do a list once? Or did I start that thread at AA? Whatever.

I'm not bothering with the boxes. (Out of the 21 I have, only one is boxed. SMB.) But I AM going after every one of them as I can.

I guess you should also count SMB/DH as a Pixellated game pak. So that would make it 34 games.

All I have left are:
Balloon Fight
Ice Climber
Clu Clu Land
Tennis
Volleyball
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Donkey Kong 3
Wild Gunman
Stack-Up
Kid Icarus
DK Jr. Math

Problem is all the ones the GS has cost upwards of $10 when with 30% off. Guess I have to resort to eBay. GS has been low for a while. And only stuck at 30%. If they want to get RID of them, lower the damn prices! 50% would be good. 70% even better. Even on systems! I could buy up a few Genesis' and make a little extra money on eBay selling them for $20. (I mean, I looked in the back room at GS today and they had a TON of them all over the shelves! Do they not want to get rid of them? All that space wasted.)

Agreed, they are just so cool. You can find a lot of information on these games (and more) in "The Official Nintendo Player's Guide", a book published in 1987 by Nintendo. It has "reviews" of over 90 NES games, including a picture of the box, the title screen and one or two screenshots. Inside the back flap is a picture that's just so amazingly cute... It shows a NES, Zapper, Advantage, two controllers, and 29 boxed games :P . All of them (except Zelda) from the "Pixelated" series.

Jealousy rising.

I only have one of those boxed. SMB alone. But I do have cart versions of a few, still... I'd love to have all of them on display.

I'm not sure, but why do Metroid and Kid Icarus have grey boxes? Just late releases?

boatofcar
06-08-2004, 05:53 PM
I think it has to do with the fact that:

1. They were later releases (1987)
2. They were released on the same day
3. They were the first games to include a password feature

Funny you should mention that pic. It has been the wallpaper on my desktop for over 3 years. I love that pic!

Then why does Rad Racer have a silver box as well? It was released October '87 according to Nintendo's list, and it doesn't include a password feature.

Touche. Maybe all '87 releases had silver boxes?

I love the pixellated artwork labels for NES games.

However, I have a few of them loose. The only boxed one I have is Gyromite and I think it has the Famicom adaptor in it since it's heavier than normal.

Nope. Pro Wrestling, Slalom, Soccer and Volleyball were released in 1987 as well.

Now it really seems odd... Why on earth did Nintendo decide to put only three games in silver boxes? They have silver labels and manuals too by the way. Now Rad Racer was made by Square, as it says on the title screen, but Metroid and Kid Icarus appear to have been made by the big N themselves. So it isn't a question of developers either :o

I must admit, I did not know that Urban Champion even existed.

Much to my delight, I found a copy at the local EB today for $3.99 loose.

Talk about good karma! :D

I might keep track of which games I have that have the pixellated artwork.

For Metroid and Kid Icarus, I think they used silver to denote that these newer games were a 'cut above' the (mostly) simpler black-box games. As for Rad Racer, I think that making it silver rather than black was a last-minute decision. My reason for thinking this is because of the rather scarce black-box style manual variant of Rad Racer. It seems to me, that the Rad Racer manuals were in full production *before* the decision was made to switch that game to the silver-box style.

I've decided to pick up as much of these screen shot games as I can possibly find boxed.

I managed to BIN two of them earlier. I will probably sell off my loose copy of Urban Champion as a result.

Balloon Fight boxed (http://cgi.msn.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8109611165&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1)

Urban Champion boxed (http://cgi.msn.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8109591197&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1)

Good deal though? I have 15 of the screen shot or pixellated label games(as some people call them).
