I already have a US console. So if you or anyone you know performs modchip installation service, that'd be the likely the cheapest and most effective way.
If those aren't options I'm open to buying either a premodded system or retail solution like the DC-X boot disc.

you can do a fairly simple mod to the DC (1 wire, 2 solder points), then you can use a region change disk.
with this disk you can change the DC to any region with any video output.
/can you even buy mod chips for the DC any more?

I'm not so sure. Might be difficult to find now.
If I had interest or skill at modding, I'd be in the business. Buy cheap consoles than chip them to sell at huge profits.

Gameshark CDX is what I use (need both the disk and the gameshark memory card). I got it cheap sometime in 2002/03. I don't think they cost too much these days still. Cheapest is a Utopia boot disk that you can burn yourself. Hard to beat free.

Eh. I may as well risk blowing up this old DC. Not using it much anyway.

I have a DC-X disc I'm willing to part with.
Make me an offer :)

I've got a new & sealed v3.3 Gameshark CDX I'd sell for $20 shipped. Not my pic but looks like this:

Nice! What's the difference between DC-X and CDX? I don't see any DC-X floating around to know what they're worth, unlike the easier to find CDX.

I don't know much about the DC-X but from what I've read, it won't boot certain games. Also has issues booting certain games in VGA.

You should research launch model DC's. Its been a while since I used mine to play back up copies but I did not have to do anything to get them to work. I've never tried to play a legit import but it's worth looking into.

As far as I'm aware, all models should load up a correctly burnt pirate copy. Except that defeats the point of what I'm asking.
Edit: PM sent to ask about the CDX.
