Even though I'm not a fan of Madden and similar ephemeral sports games this was still a good read.

Half-assed attempt by the kings of it, ESPN.

Anyway, Madden "91" for Genesis was one of those games that I saw/played at somebody's else house and said, I must have this game and this console! Super Mario Brothers/NES, Tetris/Gameboy, Madden/Genesis, Papyrus Indycar/NASCAR Racing and Star Wars Xwing/486 PC, and Goldeneye/N64, those are the big ones for me.

Honestly, that first Madden game, exclusive on the Genesis, probably sold as many Genesis consoles as Sonic the Hedgehog that year. Yet it rarely gets credit, but I'll tell you, everybody loved football, and that was the game you played. It was 100% what NintenDidn't at the time. My next door neighbor was a little older than me, and always had stuff first. I played it there in early '91 there and by late summer I had the Genesis, Sonic version, for my birthday.

What was half assed by it? I think they did a excellent job for a company that doesn't cover video games. Though after their partnership with 2k its funny how they were happy to bend right over for EA when the exclusivity kicked in.

Funny thing is check out the message board for the story its all about the 2k/ea feud.

I was referring to the video, I see now that it was just a part of an entire outside the lines program. That is one of the few good programs on ESPN.
