Well, the CGE2K10 DP After-Party didn't quite go the way we expected. I miss the days when Punkoffgirl and Kevates were making the parties go. Without pointing fingers, I seriously want to make next year's event one that will bring these after-parties back to greatness.

At the very least, the $5 cover charge got everyone these super-cool collectible DP/CGE shot glasses (http://www.customink.com/designs/cge2k10/zuv0-000f-3f3y/social?cm_cat=facebook&cm_ite=cge2k10&cm_pla=share&cm_ven=social)! Many thanks to our partners at CustomInk.com for doing the usual stellar job. And there was plenty of beer and pizza, eventually... oh AND... AND! We had the whole exhibit hall to ourselves, with 30+ arcade machines, couches, and Medieval Mayhem. In the end, it turned out OK.

But next year we need this thought out. Alchohol, snacks, events... I would like 2-4 people to step up in advance as organizers, and we really need to find a sponsor or two - I don't mind kicking in some cash but I'm sure we can do better.

It seems early, but if we don't start thinking about it now, then when?

Your thoughts on this are most welcome!

I doubt I'm qualified to be an organizer, but I'll happily volunteer to be a grunt. I can schlep things, get supplies, that sort of thing.

Hey, it's Vegas, anything can happen! But, something more likely would be a dead hooker in a slot machine at the Crazy Horse Gentleman's Club.

Let's plan it on the "5th Weekend" so Adrian (need the related DP name) can organize the hell out of it. Don't want to piss off the Trop by stealing their club thunder, but then again why not?

Since I will be driving again I'll volunteer to carry stuff, and get drunk :drinking:, but not organize.

Cool meeting and talking with Adrian btw.

I actually really enjoyed the afterparty (Loving my shotglass!) It was my first one so I have nothing else to compare it to. I actually liked the fact that it was in the expo room because it allowed us to play games and get drunk.

Though since I don't drink beer I would have liked a better alcohol selection and would be willing to pay a little more of a cover charge to cover everything.

Also I 2nd Adrian organizing the party.

So here is what we need to do, first we have to decide who the 4 organizers of the Digital Press Party are going to be. So far I have myself, Noahsmybro, Sothy and Punkoffgirl. If you are all down to commit to planning out the DP Party for 2011, please confirm and let's go the next step ;) Thanks everyone!

Not sure who can match your handle to your face, but just in case anyone was wondering, this is Jim Combs, who has been a standout staff guy at CGE for the past 4 or 5 shows. Jim is definitely one of those "get it done" people.

Carry on :)

Oh, and thanks to all who are putting this on their "to do list" for next year!

No worries Kev,

It'll be great to see ya at the next show, we missed ya this year! Would love to have ya help out so we can add you to the list of helpers. Any ideas you have or if something worked out great in past years for the Digital Press parties, please feel to share =D I'm cooking up some ideas as well and can't wait to work together to make a kick ass Party at the next show. So to recap, here are our organizers of the 2011 CGE Digital Press After Party:

1. Noahsmybro
2. Sothy
3. Punkoffgirl
4. Kevates
5. Digitpress Jim

Between the five of us, let's start thinking about who would like to contribute what to the party? That way we can assign those responsibilites to that individual. Most importantly, wherever the event is held, we have to make sure the beer and pizza arrive on time so let's make sure we do some research of the area of where the next CGE will be held =D

That's all I have for now, thanks everyone! By the way, if anybody is down to be an extra helper on call just in case something should happen to one of us or if one of us can't make the show, it would be great to have you ready to fill in. But above all, we need to work as a team to make it happen and have some fun! Thanks everyone =D

I'm not sure how big of a help it is, but I can bring a couple cases of brew.

It sounds like there was a delay on that.

I may not be able to organize anything, but I seem to have a habit of being a party starter, so if you want me to, I can buy a couple cases to get it started until you guys bring the other stuff.

Well next time I go, as long as it is not in Trop, I was going to just stay in the hotel that the show is held in, so I can keep the beer cold there and just put it in a duffle bag or something. I don't know, I will figure something out.

Please do not plan on me bringing the entire party some brews for the entire night, but I will definitely bring something to get it started at the very minimum.

Alrighty everyone so Punkoffgirl and I touched based and she provided me with some very awesome ideas for the Digital Press After Party that have worked in the past. So here is what we are gonna do, below is a list of responsibilities for the next show's After Party, if you can please respond with what responsibility you would like to volunteer for and take charge of. I will then continually update the forum as volunteers sign up for each responsibility. We can use multiple volunteers so free feel to sign up for whatever you would like even if some else already did. The more helpers we have the better =D

Thank you so much in advance, we greatly appreciate all your help. So here is that list everyone:

-We need a couple volunteers especially if you are locals to Vegas who can make the beer run before or during the auction, it's important the alcohol is at the After Party before it starts.

-We need a couple volunteers who can make the Pizza run before or during the auction, it's important the food is at the After Party shortly after it starts (so it stays hot).

-If anybody is able to donate snacks such as pretzels, chips, popcorn, etc. Danny (Dart Vader) are you out there? ;)

-We need a couple door people who can collect the After Party entry donations as well as manage the door giveaway prizes.

-We need someone who can maintain the After Party sign up sheet. Should we host the party in a Suite, it's important for this person to make sure we do not over book the After Party according to hotel regulations.

-As has been Joe and John's tradition, we will totally keep with that and be sporting 80's music at the After Party. We will need someone to bring a portable CD boombox so we can jam like it's 1985 =D

-Someone had mentioned bringing a Rockband set up for everyone to play, which sounds extremely fun if anyone wants to bring there set up. Please keep in mind though your equipment will be used by random party members, running the risk of getting things back broken.

-And of course and probably most importantly ;) we need some extra hands helping us set everything up for the after party as well as the cleanup process.

This is a list of the basics and as we need help in others areas, we will be sure to post it here. Thank you all once again.

Danny AKA Darth Vader hasn't worked for the chip company for about 5 years. So don't count on those.

Also the best way for beer is to get it Saturday during the day, borrow a couple plastic totes from the DP booth or museum area. Fill the plastic totes with bags of ice and beer. Then you don't have to worry about coolers or filling the bathtub with beer. Plus it is cooled for 5+ hours.

People mentioned rock band, well, alot of people, so I should be able to pull out my rock band 1 set since I don't care if anybody fucks up my old drums.

once i get situated in Vegas, I will go over the list and volunteer for a couple things.

Do not mark me down as an organizer, as that is too much responsibility that I honestly do not want to deal with, but seriously tack me down as a volunteer for something.

I am more than happy to have people beat the shit out of my rb1 set, so you can put me down for that. I would probably not bring it to CGE since an entire day of it getting beaten is worse than a night of drunkards beating on it. You can tack me down for that. I don't have many 80's songs, so if somebody else wants to bring their 360 and hdd, we can use my set for that.

I also would not mind leaving during the auction and picking up brews. There is a list earlier about what kinds, so I can go based off of that. Depending on how you want to do it, I can get it all in one shot, but I would need somebody to go with me so that I am not carrying case upon case by myself.

I am a local too. Daryl and I are the ones that made the beer run. I think I can speak for him that he and I would like to take full responsibility making the run (hopefully before the auction cause we don't want to miss that) in time for the next CGE after party. My only concern is getting it too soon, and the beer being warm by the time the party starts, so hopefully we'll have a fridge again that we can load up before the auction begins.

I can also of course help with whatever type of setting up and clean up is needed afterwords.

Oldskool, thanks man for taking on the beer run! I have you and Daryl penciled in to do the beer run at the next after party. Here is what we will do, we'll send you and Daryl out to make the beer run before the auction, that way nobody misses it and everyone can enjoy the awesomness of the auction! And still have that tasty beer waiting for them ;)

I'll make sure we have a fridge lined up like we did this year or at the very least we'll use big ass tubs and fill it with ice to keep the beer cold. Either way, we'll totally make it happen. Thanks again for taking this on this year, much appreciated.

Skaar, while kegs would be most lost logical and ethical, I think the hotel may have a restriction on something like that but I will none the less look into it to make sure.

Thanks every one. Keep that input coming =D

Oldskool
09-10-2010, 03:57 PM
The nice thing about not having Kegs, is that you can get a variety of beers. For instance, someone requested dark beers, so we picked up a dozen. If we buy a Keg, everyone will have to drink the same thing, which they may not like.

Perhaps during the day I will look at the list of people attending the after party, and see if they have any special request for beer. Anything other than beer (Whiskey, Vodka, Etc) I am assuming will have to be purchased or at least the money fronted for it before hand - then we could pick it up for ya.

Although, when we all get drunk and past the point of no return, it will be amusing to see all the people who are just sitting there playing the instruments without the TV evening being on lol j/k.

I will touch base with Joe and see if possibly he would be willing to let us borrow a 360 from his store. But just in case, is there anybody here that would like to add a Xbox 360 to there list of goodies to bring to the party? Thanks everyone, hope all has been well!

I would have to say, a keg or 2 would not be a bad idea, then cases f whatever others want also. Can be had at BevMo relatively decent price, also for beer/liquor, Costco and Trader Joe's are good choices.
Hopefully I can afford to make it to CGE2k11, I really want to. Afterparty's are definitely a bonus. And I'll be bringing some beer/liquor as well.
I know that the cash for door charge is used to cover expenses, but maybe bringing some beer/booze/pizza/food etc. of at east same value or more could be used as the same?

That being said, let's take a tally, who would like to have Rockband? Who would like to have DJ Hero? And who would like to have a Kinect set up? Like SegaAges said, if we can get some one to bring one of the set ups, we can more of a variety.

Also, I was thinking of having a theme for this years after party. We all here have a love and nostalgia for the 80's and I know it is cliche, but how do you all feel about having an 80's theme for the after party? We could have a costume contest too, best 80's costume wins a special 80's prize or a trophy or something fun (I'm dying to wear my white Don Johnson suit again this year and pink pastel shirt =) Sort of a way to relive an 80's party. I was thinking to tie into the Rockband theme, some one can bring a copy of Rockband Encore: Rock the 80's for PS2 and the guitars. We could jam all 80's music! Again this maybe cliche and done somewhat in the past but let's hear it everyone, what are your thoughts on a theme? Thanks team!

You are thinking of Guitar Hero, but it is all good. That game was released on PS2. Maybe somebody can bring their PS2 and a copy of the game or something (hey, I managed to shove a full body Sonic suit into my small suit case last time I went before I moved here, so a ps2 and some guitars is not out of the question, just sayin)

I do need to say that I really don't have many 80's songs on Rockband. I am all for bringing it, but just wanted you guys to be aware of the fact that there will not be much 80's stuff if I bring my RockBand setup
