I recently got a boxed copy of Doom for the GBA. I'm really impressed with how well the translation to GBA went. The controls work great and the graphics are fine.

I'll likely get another FPS for my GB Micro.

Which GBA FPS is best?

I personally like Wolf3D even with the lack of sound.

Personally, Doom was horrendous and had stiff controls, along with screwed up music ordering. Doom II was better, but still lagging, even though there were other FPSes on GBA with a good framerate.

The best two IMO are Duke Nukem Advance (Smooth gameplay, good controls) and Ice Nine (decent framerate, has some innovations such as a sniper rifle that other GBA FPSes don't).

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion!

Wait, no, I mean Ecks vs. Sever! I always get the two confused. O_O

It's one of the few GBA FPSes that isn't a disappointing port of an earlier game, as Wolfenstein 3D and Doom were. :( But for me, what really puts it above the other shooters on the system is the fact that it's so much better than the movie it was based on. We're talking about a stylish action movie starring Lucy Liu and Antonio Banderas, both fantastic actors. :o How is such a thing possible? HOW CAN A CAR CHASE PUT ME TO SLEEP?! How Wych Kaosayananda, HOW? Let me tell you my friend, it's no surprise that you haven't directed a film since you RUINED Ecks vs. Sever so thoroughly! @_@ IT HAD POTENTIAL! A GBA FPS IS A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN YOUR CRAPPY FILM, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY FOR YOURSELF?!

if i find you youll regret it

What sounds are missing? My copy sounds just like the pc version...

The music, duder! :pimp: Some may call it "atmospheric" or even "post-modern." I call it a lazy port.

Doom II is pretty good. I've never noticed a big difference between the GBA port and the original PC version. A little pricey at this point, but still worth it IMO.

I thought Doom II ported over pretty well myself. If only it had multiplayer capability it'd be darn near perfect.

Personally I consider the green blood to be a "big difference." Don't get me wrong, there are many good bloodless FPS games. But Doom, like Mortal Kombat, used its violence as a selling point. MK without blood just isn't MK- same goes for Doom. :shameful: Sure, it's still just as fun, but I always feel like there's something missing. Doomguy's face becoming "dirty" as he takes damage lacks the impact and urgency of his battered and bloodied face. :2gunfire: Also, the rearranged music is a bit offputting, but that's more nostalgia than anything. E1M1 without "At Doom's Gate" :guitar: isn't the E1M1 I remember. As I recall, Doom II suffered less in this regard.

Yeah, it plays pretty well all things considered. I have to give it that much credit. And believe it or not, both GBA Doom games have multiplayer! Unless I'm confusing them with another port, they even have all-new, exclusive multiplayer maps. :o

Both Doom and Doom II have 4 player GBA link capability. You'll need 3 GBA link cables to do a 4 player game but it's do-able for sure.

The lack of music turns me off of wolf3d, I just find it somewhat boring. In my opinion the 2 Doom ports are very playable.

There are 3rd-party link cables that have four GBA connections.

Neat! If they're compatible, that would be the one to own with those games!

I know probably all of the good titles have been said but I can't be the only who wished that Ashen for N-Gage would have been ported to the GBA... I enjoyed the game on N-Gage but the controls were pretty sloppy and even though the GBA was still a bit limited for FPS, I think it could have improved the gameplay.

There was a second Ecks vs. Sever game (Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever). It was closer to the terrible movie, but just as good in gameplay.

Count me in the Ecks vs. Sever fan camp.
