Hello everyone. A loooong time ago I saw a different version of ANOES advertised on an old LJN flyer that came with a game I bought. You played as Freddy Krueger and you had to kill the local teenagers before they found and buried your bones. The screenshot was an overhead view of the town/ street. I guess it got yanked by the big N for obvious reasons, and the version we have was released instead.
Anybody have any more info on the unreleased version?
P.S.
[Sorry. I forget to mention that it was for the NES.]

I totally remember this. However, it's well-known that LJN used fake images for screenshots in these ads. Theres one floating around for Jaws that looks nothing like the actual game. Now, I'm not the expert, but I'd be willing to bet that the version of ANOES youre referring to never existed.

There was a thread about this at least once before. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about the game and nothing has been found (that I know of).

I remember the flyer, and i think i remember the thread made about it. That is one gaming item i search for, the ability to play as Freddy sounded so bad ass. Im willing to bet Nintendo didnt go for the whole "killing teenagers" thing and made em change it.

There has been more information found recently than the one or two screen shots previously known, there was a thread about in on NA not too long ago: http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=35&threadid=39186
Definitely looks much further along than most people had once thought.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)
I found my old flyer but the one in the NA post shows more than I have ever seen. (thanks to mrmark0673 for the link)
I would have loved to have played it the way it was meant to be, but I guess the chance of finding a prototype is pretty nil. I think a nice retro-remake would be REAL sweet but without any specs on game play/ mechanics, it would have to be mostly original. If only...
Thanks again everyone.

Wow, news to me. Pretty cool. I guess I should hang around NA a bit more often.
Yeah, I'm willing to bet that game was pretty far along, although I'm sure the chances of its survival are somewhat slim. Weren't most if not all of those LJN titles done in Japan?

A few were developed in Japan. I believe Karate Kid was by Atlus and Jaws was developed by Westone. Rare did a good chunk of games for LJN as well.
Would definitely be cool if some type of work was actually done on this version of Nightmare on Elm Street.
