OK, Starsoldier1 here or whatever the hell I am calling myself this time with a follow up to my top 10 favourites things about the Turbo... of course it's the worst. When I did the original Top 10 we still got comments why the system sucked or could have been so much better so we thought we would throw our two cents in and make another vid. Me and my friend here are still big fans of the system don't get me wrong but here are a few things that bugged the crap out of me in the link.

Mine still works but my friend has his broken down three times.

I just hate the fact that I've have never seen a TG16 anything in the wild ever.
My impressions:
10) Damn straight. You can NEVER get a reliable CD-ROM system unless you dish out hundreds of dollars on a Japanese PC Engine Duo-R or PC Engine Duo-RX. All the others, either a gear that drives the laser disintegrates(TurboGrafx CD), the laser gets stuck(TurboDuo/black PC Engine Duo), the capacitors fail(TurboDuo/black PC Engine Duo, maybe even the Japanese Super CD-ROM add-on, not the briefcase unit), or the laser likes to give you hell(TurboDuo/Black PC Engine Duo). My TurboGrafx CD is a pile of crap. The day I got it, the gear that's known to disintegrate was jammed. Two months later, it jammed again, and it just won't stop! I have to fight with the damn thing for 15 minutes to get the laser to move again, and not even one hour later, it's jammed again!! F***! But now that I have the PC Engine Duo-R, the TurboGrafx CD serves absolutely no purpose, especially since I don't have a Super System Card for it.
9) Couldn't care less about the Legendary Axe games, so no comment.
8) When voice acting is bad, it grates my ears. I avoid games with terrible voice acting.
7) I was too young back when the TurboGrafx 16 was in production and for sale brand new by NEC, but I get annoyed when I'm looking for something and it's hard to find. That just pisses me off. And don't even get me started on the games. North America was given all the s*** Japan didn't want. They kept all the good stuff to themselves. And that's why most of my TurboGrafx 16 games are Japanese. I don't even have a single North American CD game.
6) The TurboGrafx 16 has the shortest controller cord I've ever seen on a video game console. It's insane; who thought of making the cord so damn short?! And it spans throughout the entire TurboGrafx 16 and PC Engine lineup! I've got two TurboGrafx 16s, a PC Engine SuperGrafx and a PC Engine Duo-R, and every single one of them came with their original controllers and they all had the same ridiculously short controller cords.
And here's one thing I just don't get: WHY IS THE PLUG ON THE TURBOGRAFX 16'S CONTROLLER PORT DIFFERENT THAN ALL THE OTHER SYSTEMS IN THE LINEUP!? Seriously, WTF? Why did they change the controller port on the TurboGrafx 16? Worse yet, if you had a TurboGrafx 16 and wanted to upgrade to a TurboDuo, you had to buy new controllers and a DuoTap rather than TurboTap. That's bulls***!
5) I do not agree with this at all, but that's because Shoot-em-Ups are my kind of game. It's the only reason why I got a TurboGrafx 16: it's packed full of Shoot-em-Ups, and many good ones at that.
4) Agree. Keith Courage in Alpha Zones is crap. That, along with Moto Roader, are the only two games I have that are just sitting around collecting dust. They're just really dull games to me.
3) Bad artwork makes me sick, and while I haven't seen much of the TurboGrafx 16's bad cover art, most of what I've seen is downright stupid or just plain ugly.
2) This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen on a video game console. Whose bright idea was it at NEC to include only ONE CONTROLLER PORT?! Okay, you probably couldn't fit too many controller ports into a PC Engine because, let's face it, that thing's friggin' tiny. But on the bigger systems like the TurboGrafx 16, PC Engine SuperGrafx, PC Engine Duo and all the other bigger variants, there's no excuse not to have AT LEAST 2 controller ports on the console. Or even if they did something like on the Panasonic 3DO, which has one controller port, but have a controller port on the controller itself. That would have worked; it might have looked rather awkward, but if it worked on the 3DO, I don't see how it wouldn't have worked on the TurboGrafx 16.
1) I don't actually consider the TurboGrafx 16 to be either 8-bit or 16-bit. I like to call it a hybrid 8-bit/16-bit console since it uses an 8-bit CPU, but twin 16-bit graphics processors. Regardless, I don't care if the hardware's weak, as long as the games look, play and sound nice, I'm okay with that. Which reminds me: for the longest time, I thought the Sega Genesis was crap with really dull-looking games and HORRIBLE sound, which really made me not like the system at all until I got one and saw for myself that the system actually is capable of nice graphics and sound. This proves that even if the hardware isn't exactly that powerful, so long as the games themselves are well made, it's all good for me.
Now, let me tell you my number one biggest complaint about the TurboGrafx 16: HORRIBLE reliability. Unless you've got a cartridge-only TurboGrafx 16 or PC Engine home console, the other variants are typically seen broken. The TurboExpress/PC Engine GT loses sound and video due to leaky capacitors like the Sega Game Gear, the TurboDuo/black PC Engine Duo has the same problem that can cause audio, video or electrical problems within the console(and also causing problems with the CD drive) along with a laser that likes to run off its track and get stuck, and the TurboGrafx CD is just a big pile of crap with that one gear that likes to shatter. The TurboGrafx CD is the worst in the line because when that gear shatters, your TurboGrafx CD becomes a doorstop. There exist no replacement gears and in order to replace the gear, you need to spend close to $100 just to get a whole bunch of stuff for you to create a mold of your TurboGrafx CD's original gear and make a new one. It's ridiculous.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the TurboGrafx 16, but some of the design and marketing decisions made by NEC are just plain retarded and get me very irritated simply because they're so retarded.

I agree, they are not made to last.
I got 3 CD drives and 2 out of 3 died. I think it's a matter of time before something will go wrong.
I've had some real bad luck with most of my NEC gaming items. 2 dead CD drives, 1 PC Engine Duo sound issues, 1 Turbo Express with sound and screen issues, 2 TG16 RF ports stopped working, 1 TG16 power supply died, 1 Arcade Duo card that stopped working, and a few controller that had problems.

TempestMy Turbo Duo still plays fine after all these years but my Express basically has no sound anymore.

It has nothing to do with CD-Rs. This is a GEAR that's jamming, not the LASER. They're 2 completely different things. The LASER running off its track and getting stuck is a problem on black Duos, while the GEAR getting jammed occurs on the TurboGrafx CD and standard PC Engine CD-ROM briefcase unit. This happens regardless of whether the system was reading CD-Rs or authentic pressed discs. It's just enough that I leave my TurboGrafx CD off for an hour and the gear gets stuck. This, in turn, prevents the laser from moving, but this is not a case of the laser running off its track and getting stuck. The gear gets stuck and stops the laser from moving no matter where it is, be it near the spindle, at the outer edge or anywhere in between. And besides, the TurboGrafx CD's laser can't run off its track. When you push it all the way back, you can still push it front without opening the system up, whereas on a black Duo, you need to open the entire CD-ROM drive to get the laser back in place without risking any damage to the drive.
But anyways, I'm done with that since I have a PC Engine Duo-R. MUCH more reliable system and quite possibly the nicest-looking system in the PC Engine lineup, as is the PC Engine Duo-RX, which is essentially the same machine on the outside with a slightly different paint job.

I myself also find it impossible to find Turbo or PC-Engine systems in the wild. It makes me baffled to hear of folks who have more than 1.
Kinda a bummer, since a lot of importers I know are PC Engine fanboys. I feel out of the loop not having played most of the line-up...

Here's another thing to baffle you: my two TurboGrafx 16s, my TurboGrafx CD, my PC Engine SuperGrafix and my PC Engine Duo-R were all found in the wild in various parts of Canada. I feel like one lucky b****** to have found all of my NEC gaming hardware in the wild and sparing insane shipping costs on the PC Engine SuperGrafx and PC Engine Duo-R.
Jeez, I should try to find several TurboExpresses and TurboDuos that are in need of some help. I don't wanna see all of those things fall victim to excessive capacitor leakage and die or get thrown in the garbage because the owners have no clue what's wrong.

Mentioning a top-10 reasons to hate the Turbografx-16 even if we are fans of the console takes a lot, I truly appreciate you for doing this; usually, when we are a fan of this or that console, we try to ommit or negate certain issues with such console but it takes a lot to be a fan and still reckon the console's failures.
Best regards. :)

I'm surprised that the short cords weren't higher on the list. I never owned one growing up but it's the one thing that stands out from when I played it at a friend's place.

Don't worry I enjoy the game as well. I don't think the game is bad just very generic.
Am I the only person on Earth who actually liked Keith Courage In Alpha Zones?
The only reason I don't like Keith Courage in Alpha Zones is because the game is just too dull for me. I like games that are fast-paced, which is why I like Shoot-'em-Ups so much.

Ugh....caps are DEFINITELY number one. Both my Duos are dead :(
As for cords...in Japan they did make a wireless controller which is quite nice actually.
I need a Duo R or RX....do they really not die??? *crosses fingers*

The CD based TG16/PCE games have no region coding but you'll need to mod the system for different region HuCards.
