I am going to start working on my Dreamcast cabinet and have an extra 15 inch flatscreen monitor I was going to use in it, but can't seem to track down my vga cable at this time (which means I will have to buy another one). Since I am unable to track that down, anybody know how compatible light gun games are on a flatscreen for DC or willing to give it a quick test for me since I can't track down my vga cable?

The screen curvature of the glass doesn't matter.

All that matters is that it has to be a CRT monitor. And I hear that to get light guns working over VGA you have to crank up the brightness and/or contrast or something.

Also, a CRT HD monitor won't work.

It should work.
Spend a few minutes searching at Google and you'll find plenty of people that have been able to use a modern PC CRT monitor just fine with their Dreamcast lightgun games.
I thought the same as you did but did a search to confirm it before making that post the other day and was surprised.

I have tested Dreamcast House of the Dead with the Interact lightgun.
VGA CRT Monitor worked beautiful.
HD CRT Sony Wega no luck.

It won't work with most CRT HDTVs because of latency and/or upscaling.

CRT HDTVs, no. But CRT HD monitors, yes. It might not work on super high-res ones, or widescreen, but it should be fine on any XGA or SVGA or SXGA monitor. Strictly VGA monitors aren't even very common in my experience; I imagine they never really took off because we quickly moved on to better ones. Even the multisync monitors I've seen were XGA capable.

Monitors that only do VGA are generally very small and very old. I did see some 9" VGA monitors at an electronics recycler once, but they weren't tested yet, otherwise I would have picked up a few.
