I am the recent owner of a GBAsp. I have used several in the past, and this one seems to have a slightly darker screen. Is it just my imagination or were there different models of the GBAsp produced with brighter screens?

Since there were 4 major model variations, it depends which one yours is.

Just a shot in the dark (tee hee), I'll guess you have a GBAsp which had an inferior lighted screen (bottom mounted side-light) than the back-lit screen of the GBAsp2.

The first GBA were all dark.

Ha, well yeah...stupid oversight on my part. It is a GBAsp. I have no idea why I just put GBA.

And thanks.

There were 2 different model numbers for the SP(found on the bottom of the unit)
AGS-001 was the original frontlit model
AGS-101 is the newer "Now with a brighter backlit screen" model.

In case you don't feel like checking the model numbers...

"The North American backlit version comes in three standard colors: "Pearl Blue", "Pearl Pink" and "Graphite" (a grayer version of Onyx Black). There were also two Toys "R" Us exclusive backlit models; a "SpongeBob SquarePants" model[8] and a "Limited Edition Pikachu" model."

Well it would appear that mine is older. I have a silver one. Makes sense though, I was playing on a Graphite one before. At least I'm not going crazy.

The silver ones were the original releases If I remember correctly, and I know that the graphite were later and had the brighter screen.
