Going to mod a model one Genesis for S0-video since the last one i had modded was unknowingly the crappy VA7 revision that gives horrible sound. I have in my possession TWO HD Graphic variant model 1 genesis at this point, both have ths sega splash screen before booting.

Here's the problem. According to this link

http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?p=161951

One shouldn't have this screen, yet both of them do.

FCC ids are as follows

FJ846EUSASEGA

FJ8USASEGA

Which should I be modding? Does it make a difference if they have the screen?

Really if you are modding for S-Video - TMSS is not too much of a concern. As long as it's the "High Definition Graphics" model 1, it should be easy. If it is not a "Hi Def" model 1 - try to find one that's got the standard CX IC chip, not the surface mount. Either can be modded for S-Video, but the standard IC is a lot easier to solder wires onto the "legs". On the surface mount the legs are much closer but it can still be done with some precision soldering. Hope that helps.

Or if you don't want to do any soldering you can go the RGB/Scart to Component Video Converter like I have done. No modding is required it's all plug and play and you get Component Video which is even better. This route is more expensive however.
