So I bought this loose Genesis system with the 32X addon a couple of months ago, forgot all about it until recently. The only cable I have for it is the 32X connection cable which I heard is a bit expensive so I lucked out. So what do I need to hook this shit up?

Make sure you have the portion of the connection cable that adapts it to fit your model 1 (normally it fits a model 2, the adapter portion converts it to the larger DIN plug you require). Beyond that, a basic AV cable to go from the 32X to your display and an extra model 2 power supply to make the 32 run are all you really need.

Well, that and a game. Games usually make it work much better.

Yep, got that. So I all need to worry about is the 32X shit? Don't have any cables for the Genesis.

You will need a model 1 power supply to handle the Genesis itself. Beyond that, the video is piped through the 32X and all data is handled via the cartridge slot.

So what you need is:

Power brick for the Genesis (model 1)
Power brick for the 32X (model 2)
Passthrough cable (you have this)
A/V cables for model 2 Genesis or 32X (they are the same)

That ought to do it :D

You actually need two cables for the connection between the 32x and the Genesis. The regular 32x connection cable is made for a model 2 Genesis. There's a second cable that hooks to the end of that cable (where it would plug in to the model 2 Genny) and has a Genesis 1 end on the other side.

Given that he received it with a Model 1 Genesis attached, I was hoping that piece of the cable would be a given.

Website GameTrog (http://shop.gametrog.com/SEGA-32X-to-Genesis-1-Mixing-AV-Cable-32X-CROSS1.htm) sells new 3rd party cables to connect the Model 1 Genesis directly to the 32X, one wire only unlike the two before. They are only 14.99, which is darn cheap.

Yes, the 32X cable is basically two separate cables connecting together between the Genesis and 32X. Hope this is what y'all are referring to. Thanks for all the help.

That's the one :D Get yer power bricks and A/V cables then go enjoy some 32X.

Neat - good for them.

Those damn genesis 1 cables are worth more than a 32x itself.

Is this true? I thought the Model 2 Genesis A/V cables were stereo but the ones that came with the 32X were mono for some reason. Maybe because you can only get mono out of the model 1 Genesis (except for through the front headphone jack)?
