View Full Version : I suck at Wetrix+ for the Dreamcast.

I'm assuming I'm not alone in this regard. There doesn't seem to be enough fire, and I can't build the right combination of walls/puzzle piece arrangements to keep the water from draining off the board. Any of you good at this game?

I'm pretty good at Wetrix on Nintendo 64, which is essentially the same game to the best of my knowledge.

To get a good score and to stay alive for a decent amount of time, you should build 3 or 4 tiny ponds, deep enough to get the rubber duckies. Then use the rest of the land for one huge lake. Focus on building up the perimeter, then use the down arrows to remove the excess land on the inside. When you get extra land pieces, dump them in one corner and use the bombs on that to prevent earthquakes. Dump all of your water in the big lake, and hopefully you'll get a rainbow and then some fire before it starts to spill over the sides.

Is the Dreamcast version the same as the N64 one? I'm pretty bad at that game too, but I always found it to be fun.

Dreamcast Wetrix+ is basically a nicer version of the N64 game. It's the same game, but runs in a higher resolution and a smoother frame rate.

I got Wetrix on the N64 back in the day and I was pretty damn good at it. I hadn't played it for a few years when I got the DC version, and so I was a bit out of practice but it didn't take me too long to get into the swing of things.

The most important strategy to lasting in the single player is to dedicate a corner of the playfield to dropping bombs, and keeping it contained away from the rest of the map.

Rubber duckies? Bombs that prevent earthquakes? Rainbows? These tips sound utterly hilarious to someone who's never played the game!

I own this game on the Dreamcast, but have never played it. It sounds original enough, so I think I better give it a try.

Wetrix for N64 was my first game for that system and I bought it because it was cheap and the concept seemed really cool. I ended up sucking so badly at it and getting so pissed off that I shelved it. I got Paper Mario soon after that and Wetrix was promptly forgotten about until this post. I'm looking at it now and I can see the 10+ years of dust on the box end. LOL! I was not aware there was a DC version of it. Looking at the youtube vid brings back the anger and hate. >.<!

I was surprisingly good at this game which is unusual as I suck at most games.

I always felt that the N64 version had better, more precise control than the DC version.

This game also had a very similar semi-sequel on the PS2 under the name "Aqua Aqua". I still think the N64 version beats it in terms of less-twitchy control.

The Dreamcast version is sharper, but the N64 version has better water effects.

That's the basic idea, but his execution is so-so.

It can definitely be a confusing and frustrating game at first. It doesn't have the instant pick-up-and-play nature of Tetris. I'd recommend trying out the tutorial before taking on classic mode. It is a fun puzzle game, though, and it deserves more attention than it gets. And the voiceover is hilariously quotable, as Malon was getting at. :P

Haha, yes! Whenever you play that game, you have to scroll around the main menu for a bit just to hear every option. I got to dust this game off and play it.

Wetrix will make 8 out of 10 people need to pee instantly. Science.

I just heard of this game recently and it looks pretty interesting. I like weird games and I like puzzle games... so I should get this.
