Anyone know what the star bit is called for the TG16? The security bit used to take the console apart?

Torx security bit. Star driver with a center pin. If you are looking for one, I found a cheap Torx set in the $5 tool bin at my local hardware store.

Actually the Turbografx 16 is held together with the same screws that are in the Super Nintendo, N64, Gamecube, and most Sega Genesis games. You'll need a 4.5mm gamebit to open it. You can get them on eBay or several different web sites. Personally, I got mine from www.nintendorepairshop.com Security torx screws are found in some Sega Genesis games, and I think they are in XBOX consoles, but I don't have one so I can't be sure.

Sorry, I was thinking of PC-E/Turbo Duo.

I've never needed to open a TG16... All the goodies are on tap on the back port. :)

The security bit for Genesis carts is a T10 torx bit. I bought one for 50 cents on at a flea market. Xbox on the other hand uses a T8 torx.

If the TG-16 uses the same bit, which I would assume it does, then you shouldn't have trouble finding one for cheap.

Hmmm, my understanding of Torx is that the screws will be indented, the tool straight, where on the game/security bits, the tool is indented, the screws stick out a bit as a sort of star.

Basically, game bits/screws are the opposite of torx, as I recall, and have a different name.

Hmmm...

Ok, so "game bits" are "external torx," I guess. Maybe. I guess I'd need to see a torx screw and a gamebit screw side by side to be sure.
