Who's the king of 'Kong?' Not Kirkland's Steve Wiebe

For those who have been following the epic battle of good vs evil (Steve Wiebe vs Billy Mitchell).

Just last month Billy Mitchell has reclaimed his title as DK and DKJR champ.

Mitchell revealed new record scores for "Donkey Kong" (1,062,800) and "Donkey Kong Jr." (1,270,900). The scores were verified by Twin Galaxies, which bills itself as "the world's official authority on player rankings, gaming statistics and championship tournaments."

I can't help but root for Steve Wiebe , who has made a few attempts to regain the title over the past year, but has failed. He is a true underdog. You have to respect Billy Mitchell's talent's and abilities. But he is a jackass.

I also read that Steve Wiebe has a role in the movie four christmases

Seth Gordon directed King of Kong and Four Christmases, which was a giant bomb and deserved. Wiebe had a non-speaking role.

That's a controversial subject in its own. I read somewhere that Billy Mitchell is given biased media exposure, as if they're intentionally making him look like the hotshot douche.

Mitchel and Wiebe were upstaged by Hank Chien, a plastic surgeon from New York ( not everyone with an Asian name lives in China). He saw the movie and decided to give it a try. He'll probably get the record back. Mitchel, being a true douchebag, held back by finishing early although he said he could have had a higher score. Wiebe may be the underdog of KoK but I doubt he can keep up with someone like Chien who just did it for the lolz.

Does anyone really care about video game records? I mean, I guess I might have cared in 1982, but is there really any demand for those Twin Galaxies books or any other purpose to the record attempts other than to fill 15 seconds on the local news on a slow news day? I saw King of Kong when they showed it on G4 and it held my interest maybe 2/3 of the way through, but I still can't figure out why Steve Wiebe was so driven to even compete. I also don't think Billy Mitchell is an evil douche so much as he seems to be a really pathetic figure who lives inside a non-existent world where video game records actually matter.

To make The King of Kong more appealing, they needed a villain/hero motif, so they oversensationalized Billy in the film so he would come across more as a villain.

Billy Mitchell showed a warmer side in KOK when he brought some old lady a Qbert Arcade Game. Some of the things he said in KOK made him look like a dbag.
I find the whole story very compelling and interesting.

From what I hear, Mitchell didn't even have the DK record during the filming of King of Kong. Although the movie makers did their best to but "hint" strongly that he did, but still hide the fact that he didn't.

eh? Why is that a douche move? On Xbox Live when competing with my friends list in Galaga, I just pass score the 2nd person on my friends list and don't go much past that and just stop there. I don't keep padding my score. Keeps it interesting. :p

I think that was the point, rather than try for the best score possible, he just got the high score again so that others will try to beat it, so that he can just go back and get it again. If your the best fine, but no reason to rub peoples face in it just to glorify yourself.

And why do people think that they should keep on playing when they beat the high score? These guys are at it for hours and hours, I don't know about you but I'd get really sick of Donkey Kong after hours upon hours of continuous playtime here. I don't blame him for stopping after beating the high score.

And yes, Billy Mitchell is pompous, but at least he's got the skill to back up his trash talk.
