View Full Version : NAVA Gamer's Meeting, August 28th: "Battle of the 64's"

NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.
Previously at NAVA...
- Unusual systems were set up, and gamers got to try something completely different on a Pioneer Laseractive, Emerson Arcadia 2001, Panasonic 3DO and GCE Vectrex.
- The store's previous high score on "I'm Sorry" was taken in a tight race by Mike "killersquirel" Markowski.
- The 6PM tournament was 3DO "Way of the Warrior". Mayhem ensued.
- "Squarepainter" stopped by with some of his amazing hand-painted videogame tribute artwork.
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.
- Pictures tell it best:
http://www.digitpress.com/images/store/
This month: It's the battle of 64's. Nintendo 64 vs. Commodore 64. Which will attendees choose as the best? We'll have one of each set up in the main gaming area, each with a solid representation of its respective game library.
At 6PM it's TOURNAMENT TIME. We'll "wing it" and choose a game by 5pm based on whichever system is getting the most playtime. A head-to-head game will determine not only which system wins the day, but which GAMER. Will it be Goldeneye 007? Archon? Mario Party? Way of the Exploding Fist? Be there at 5 and find out!
This month's arcade high score challenge will be "Spelunker", a 1985 platformer released by Irem. I chose this because it was the first game that came to mind when thinking about my favorite Commodore 64 games, and this one also happens to be an arcade game. Spelunker is also an NES game, which is a predecessor to the N64 so there's your links to the day's theme. The person who logs in the highest score by 8pm will get a $20 gift certificate for the Digital Press store and will be added to the new "house champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame located just above the arcade section of the store. Get your practicing in now!
Get your trade boxes in order, it's NAVA time!
Official Site: http://www.digitpress.com/nava
When: Saturday, August 28th, noon to midnight.
Where: Digital Press Videogames: http://tinyurl.com/yscakm
What happens: Gaming, trading, tournaments, big prizes! Extra game stations are set up around the store. Attendance is FREE. Half price for kids!
What can I bring?: Snacks, soda and beer are always appreciated. Cakes have been very popular as well.

Goldeneye vs Archon for the tournament... who can honestly pick just one?

I'll have an item for sale/trade (other than that copy of Katamari Damacy for PS2 that I can't seem to get rid of) for the first time in a long time.
My recent Game & Watch collecting binge has left me with a duplicate Donkey Kong II multi-screen.
Details on the unit are here: http://www.intheattic.co.uk/donkey_kong_ii.htm
As far as gameplay goes it's one of the better G&W units.
It's a bit dinged up and missing the metal detailing on the right side of the controls, but the LCD is perfect, the audio is loud, the battery compartment is clean and the battery cover is included.
Here are some pics, PM me if you're interested in it:

I would love to make it to some of these. I don't think I can make the August one, but I am planning on making the September date.

If anyone is interested in a modded XBox, I have one for sale. It's soft-modded and contains a 250GB hard drive. Xbox Media Center works very well for video playback of most formats -- provided that they aren't HD.

Speaking of Xbox, I'd like to try and move a boxed "Steel Battalion." All the packing material is long since gone and the box has seen better days, but its still boxed and the controller is in fine condition.
*Edit*
Also looking to unload a bunch of mostly PS2 collector boxes. If there is any interest, just PM me. There are only 4 things I'm actively looking for, a replacement copy of Landstalker (GEN, I only have the box. If there is interest in just the box I will let it go), replacement copy of "Prinny Can I really be the Hero?," a poke walker, and "E.V.O.: the search for Eden"
SMTN: Devil Summoner 2 (boxed, sealed, plushie)
Mana Khemia 1+2 (boxed limited editions)
Art Tonelico 1+2 (boxed limited editions)
Art of Fighting (SNES, boxed)
Magna Carta (boxed, barely played, awesome poster)
Beyond Oasis (GEN, sealed)
Growlanser Heritage of War (box opened, actual game case still sealed)
Growlanser Generations: Deluxe (box, everything included)
.hack//G.U. vol.1 (deluxe set w/ figurine... I believe it has been opened)
Boxed 3DO (R.E.A.L., tons of games, just ask me for a list of what I can sell with it.
KOF 2001 (AES, boxed, jap region)
KOF 96 (AES, boxed, also jap)

Ive been reading this fourm for a while now, and just decided to join recently. I'm going to try and make it to this event, making it the first one I attend. I'll definatly bring a few things to sell or trade.
My only question is what the average ages are that attend. Being a younger collector (16), I may or may not drag someone there with me.

I will be bringing some new and really good stuff for sale at this NAVA. One of the new and interesting items is a genuine Japanese Pachinko machine. I have attached a picture of the machine to this post. This is a newer pachinko machine that has an lcd that has different animations on the play field. The machine is in perfect working order. I don't have any balls for the machine, but they can be found on ebay.
I will also be bringing some interesting items for people who have a modded playstation or people that play playstation games on emulators. There are two items for mame fans as well.

edit - It's not allowing me to upload a photo. I have tried five times to no avail. If anybody is interested PM me your email address and I will email you the picture.

There's really not an average age. There are definitely kids that come on a regular basis that are your age or younger.
INTRODUCE YOURSELF. Find a forum member, tell them you recently joined the forums, ask to be introduced around. Don't be shy. There's no reason why it should take 4 or 5 months to figure out who everyone is.
See you Saturday!
Might be good to have some of these available, and a Sharpie.

Drat, he stole my idea LOL
Well, technically I stole it from the millions of .jpgs that can be found by googling the phrase.
Also, to add to the whole "64" themed NAVA I'll be bringing a DVD filled with hours and hours of Mega64 video game sketches that we'll have running in the background on the store DVD player/TVs.

That I don't know. But we do have a half-dozen copies in the store we can rifle through. Surely someone was a die-hard. If not, hopefully someone will bring along their unlocked cart!

I guess you're from the Howell, NJ crew. I'm sure we know your face, so please do mention your handle. I'm always happy to introduce forum members to others. Solidarity, brother!
Really looking forward to this one, the first game bash since CGE! See ya tomorrow.

Was visiting the folks out in Jersey this weekend and was finally able to make it out to one of these! Met some good people--most of whom I forgot to ask thier forum names, doh. Played Tempest 2000 for the first time on the store's Jaguar setup (nice), and big ups to Frankie_Says_Relax for proving the merits of the Atari Lynx to me with some great games.. the best for me being Stun Runner (!!!), as well as showing me around in general.
Just wanted to say thanks to all, and particuarily those that were subjected to a "odd" comment or two from my father (you know who you are) who tagged along with me, we just don't let him out much.

Get yourself a LYNX!
I had a good time; met some folks, played some games, bought some stuff.
What better way to spend an afternoon.
I'll certainly be back, just maybe when the weather is cooler.
Thanks,
