I'm really getting burned out on shmups, shooters, sports games, etc, etc, etc. What I think I need is access to a list of quality sim games for consoles.

Traditionally these were handled best on PC due to mouse/keyboard and screen resolution. However did any companies produce some quality Sims on console that slipped through the cracks proving the computer guys wrong? In particular Historical Military / City Building / etc...

I remember sim city on the snes being kind of fun...

PS: How are the KOEI History sims (China / Japan /etc)

Sim City on SNES is, as your memory serves, more than worthy. It's a far more enjoyable game than Sim City 2000, in my opinion. Another cool SNES city builder-type sim is Utopia, if you're looking to build up a futuristic empire.

Of the Koei selection, I'm quite partial to Aerobiz and years ago I found PTO 2 (a WWII sim) on SNES to be quite the game. Gemfire is more strategy than sim but it's one I highly recommend, it might be a good choice to ease into the genre on console.

Like Drixxel mentioned, Sim City is great. I think most sim games I've played on consoles work very well.

There's also ActRaiser, Sim City 2000, Sim Ant, Warcraft 2, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Aerobiz Supersonic, and Metal Marines.

All are good in my opinion. ActRaiser is very light on the simulation as you really don't have much control over what happens. Romance of the Three Kingdoms everything already has preset locations, but you put money into the city to make it prosper all the while hiring/drafiting and training soldiers to take over neighboring cities. Aerobiz Supersonic everything already has preset locations as well but you put what types of planes you'd like to build how much you want to charge, etc, to try and be the largest airline corporation in the world.

I've played Civilization on the SNES and Civilization 2 on the PSX. I'd recommend to skip the first one due to how ridiculously paced it is on the console. The second one doesn't seem to move at a snails pace.

There's Theme Park but I've never played it on a console.

*edit*

Had to go and play Civilization again because I didn't remember if it was slow on console or not. It is. Doesn't work well on console.

ActRaiser, right - I'd forgotten about ActRaiser. The simulation elements are on the shallow side, as kupomogli said, but they're an excellent foil to the action stages. That the simulation plays out episodically means you don't get the satisfaction of watching one civilization sprawl awesomely for an entire game, but messing around as a city planning angel is some of the most fun I've had with a console sim. Very much worth playing.

I enjoyed playing The Sims Bustin' Out (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims_Bustin%27_Out) for the Gamecube. It's just like The Sims 1 on PC, only with assigned goals that encourage the player to improve their character.

Theme Park & Theme Hospital for the Playstation were just as good as their PC version, there's also Populous: The Begining but that's more Sim/RTS.

MySims for the Wii is actually pretty good, much better than any actual Sims game on a console.

Civilization Revolution (on modern consoles though) plays very well indeed.
