From the Videopac + Speccy all the way up the UK has often given their consoles an "RGB" port on the back. My question is, did the computer/gaming industry standardize what is expected of the RGB connector? In otherwords, can I plug any old vintage UK system with RGB into an Commodore 1084? If not, what are the options?

If that monitor accepts PAL video I'd guess so. Maybe a converter from SCART would be needed?
I'm not too familiar with RGB. I've always assumed it was an absymal commercial failure in the US home-user market, and limited to professional or enthusiast niches here.

Generally RGB is available through the same output source as component or S-video, it just depends on what the console supports. The first computers to support RGB were the ST and Amiga I believe. No 8 bit does RGB, although you can rig cables and the such out from the Commodore range to support composite or S-video (I have them for my computers).

Eh? I specifically know the Spectrum 128, later Amstrads, and Philips Videopac 7400 have RGB connectors on the back.
What is scart?

SCART is the standard European connector for hooking up VCRs/DVD players/Freeview boxes etc. Not ALL scart is RGB. Some are just S-video etc.
