I know I know its Tuesday morning... my bad.
Here is a little twist on Space Invaders from Sega Called, Space Tactics.
Its kind of a cross between Space Invaders and Missile Command. I remember the first time I saw this game back in I think 1981 (the memory gets fuzzy when you get old), it was crazy. IIRC, the game I played at the James E. Strates Shows (traveling carnival basically) arcade was a sitdown version.
The game was a little difficult to grasp onto, but once you got it you could rack up some serious points. You had to know when to put the shield up that protected the cities, and when to use the missiles to defend the cities from the bombs that the oncoming waves of spaceships would drop once they got close enough. They would approach the cities in undulating waves, and you had to learn their movements in order to shoot them before they got into bomb range, otherwise they would start unloading a LOT of bombs on you. You could shoot down the bombs, but eventually the enemies would drop down many, many more than you could shoot with your laser cannons.
Then were the "challenge" stages, where three enemy spaceships would move in a circular or figure-eight pattern and you would try and shoot them down for bonus points. Basically it was a respite before another wave on enemies would come to try and destroy your cities.
It was a fun, if stress-inducing game. Here is the screenshot, the ROM will be soon to follow:
