Been following this game since it's original announcement 3 years ago and I'm glad to see that it's finally fully came to light (http://kotaku.com/5618174/the-3rd-birthday-in-motion-wrecking-new-york). This game is the only reason why I've held onto my PSP and seemed to be under heavy wraps, since new of the game only surfaced maybe 2 or 3 times since it was first announced. Anyway it's nice to see Aya Brea in action again and if all goes well, chances are they will make a true sequel to Parasite Eve for the PS360.

You ever see the movie for it? I've thought about getting it, not sure if its good though.

The movie is based on the book and is unrelated to the game, it was pretty decent from what I remember of it.

I forgot to say, after watching that video, that If it comes state side, I will get a psp just for that game alone. (plus pick up a few exclusives) Its the first game on the psp, that makes me want to own a psp.
I loved the first PE, but didn't really care much for the 2nd. 1st PE is easily my top ten games most played and loved of all time.

Do you remember if there is English or English sub titles in the movie? If its all Japanese, i won't think i would understand any of it. :bawling:

Yes it does, it was released on DVD with subtitles a few years ago. I watched it via funsubs tho, since I couldn't find the DVD anywhere at that time.

I thought I was the only one hyped about this game finally coming out. Always nice to have a great title come out on the PSP.

A new launch trailer just released.

3rd Birthday Launch Title (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D5bT4VuKFg)

I first thought 3rd Birthday was a stand alone PE title and the return of Kyle and Eve (Maya?) convinces me it's a continuation (and the amazin' stellar PE1 theme beat).

Though I'm still hard pressed how mitochondria and spinning dildos work together?

This doesn't look like or look like it plays much like the Parasite Eve I know and love. Plus, shouldn't Aya be a hardened cop by now? I'll pass.

One of these days I know they are going to announce a Vagrant Story 2 and it's going to play like this dumb shit. I am already preparing for that mega bummer.

Looks like March 29th here in the US.

It's probably one of 2 Square games I liked from the PS1 days, so I'm happy to see another game in the series. Doesn't appear to play anything like the others, but it looks fairly fun regardless.

Saw the trailer in the link above...why the lame voice acting? :p

Anyone score this? I grabbed one yesterday. Cover has a nice foil look to it. A friend pointed out the strat guide for it, which kinda surprised me.

Doesn't seem to be doing too well on the review circuit.

I'm now charging my PSP so I can play it later.

It's definitely a game I want to play, but not one I want to run out and pay full price for. I'll get it eventually, though. I loved the original PE.

I figure $30 isn't bad for it at all. I was actually surprised to see it wasn't $40.

Bought my copy yesterday. Already finished Episode 2. The whole possession/body-swapping/time-travel thing sounds interesting on paper. But its tough....for the wrong reasons. First the camera angle is fine by itself but if you're caught a tight hallway or in a corner, it's your worst enemy. Speaking of enemies, the bosses are atrocious especially the Queen Bee boss at the end of Ep 2. That bee-itch fires like a bazillion bullets at once moving at the speed of light pinned down 'til she eventually sucker punches ya from the side. What's worse is Aya moves so slow and everything moves faster that you got no choice but roll or bodyswap, which at times can be disorienting.

Not to mention, a tangled control setup and a supposed "DNA board setup" (which Square didn't explain at ALL), it's another example of stuffing too much without the foresight to implement a good learning curve. In other words.....KISS. Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Oh, that is s bit of a surprise. If I see one come into my store I might pick it up then.

The couple of screenshots I saw of this made it look maybe-kinda-sorta like Bullet Witch, is it? I love me some Bullet Witch.

I finished the game TWICE last Thursday. I found the story convoluted and incoherent. It skips and jumps more radically than a frog high on Mexican jumping beans. But the ending helped tie-up many loose ends throughout that made the whole thing kinda make sense while loosely within the realm of possibility for Parasite EVE and I appreciated 3rd birthday a bit more.

...HOWEVER! There're still major plotholes that they have yet to answer. Not to mention, how the developers give a big double poopin-dumpin' birdie betrayal of PE's history, character, style, and...and everything else. It's like a Uwe Boll production...only worse.

I'm beside myself on this one. The gameplay was enjoyable and quite unique, despite being a linear shootfest as it was. The only thing keeping me from dropping it's candy-coded plastic behind in the crapper is the chance I'm hoping Square does an official sequel and render this game as a bad side story that has no canon in the series itself. Cause gawdamit, I want a Aya/Eve team-up roasting some mitochondrial mutant....with a pair of lovely bazookas. Hehehe ;)

Is it good for PE fans? Ehhhhhh.....no, not unless you're ready to experience painful yet equally disturbing moments of character assassination...in more ways than one.

Is it something for RPG fans in generally? Yeah....sorta. As a standalone title (emphasis on standalone), 3rd Birthday's bodyswap/time-traveling approach was different and fun. Blowing up monster with a high-powered tank cannon and air-surface missile was a blast. I just wish the rest of the game was for all fans.

Ugh, that review sounds quite unfortunate. I loved the original game and was thinking about buying a PSP just for this game. I think I should skip it.

After watching some gameplay videos and hearing that the storyline was pretty garbage I decided I didn't want to get it. If I want a garbage storyline and gameplay that looks like Mindjack, then I'd get Mindjack. I was hoping they'd have went back and made either another Resident Evil combat style game or, even though PE predates it, Vagrant Story style combat game.

You should still get a PSP though because it's the best system this gen.

Wait a second. How is the PSP possibly better than the 360 or the PS3? This I do not believe at all.

He's talking about handhelds.

He's talking about handhelds.

I'm talking about all systems. The DS is better than the PS3, 360, and Wii also. Graphically they don't stand a chance, but the software for the two portable systems far exceed the software for the console systems.

I know it's off topic, but really. I'm sure everyone has lost interest in the Third Birthday anyways, so yeah.

With the handhelds, there is a much bigger variety of games that are actually good. With the PS3 and 360, it's mostly shooters that are good. Almost half the games I own that I think are atleast fairly good are mainly shooters. I added Red Dead Redemption in this list but not GTA4 because it's not prominent in GTA4 while in Red Dead it is. RPGs across the two systems combined mostly suck, although there are a very few good ones. Lack of good platformers. Overall you have your various games that are good on the system, but like I said, shooters are the most prominent on these two systems and they're the most repetitive genre aside from shmups.

With the PSP, while almost a third of its good games are probably a port or a remake. A good port is a good port. It's still part of the systems library. Does Breath of Fire 3 suck because it's on another system? Tales of Eternia? GTA Chinatown Wars? Alongside that it has a lot of titles that are extremely good games. It's the system to own if you're interested in RPGs for this gen, but not only that. No other system this gen can touch it when it comes to the amount of good platformers. The DS comes the closest. So there's a lack of shooters on the PSP and DS. I can live with that seeing as there's a lack of everything but shooters on the PS3 and 360 and then with the Wii there's just a lack of everything.

Little Big Planet, Prinny, and Hammerin' Hero. Those are the only platformers I remember the PSP has. What other ones are you talking about kupo?

But I agree, the handhelds, including DS, are clearly the RPG kings this gen. A towering combined total of 200 titles is a hard climb to conquer especially a growing one at that. ;)

I can definitely agree that RPG gaming is best done on the handhelds. But good non-fps certainly exist for the 360/PS3/Wii. Also a tiny little screen is never as good as what I can play on a 47" TV w/ surround sound.

Off the top of my head,
Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2, GTA 4, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, New Super Mario Bros., Demon's Souls, God of War III, Infamous, Uncharted 1 & 2, and I happen to like the Guitar Hero games :-)

Also...Metal Gear Solid 4, RE5, Alan Wake, Fallout 3 (do you call these shooters? because they're not quite)

And then there's also a ton of good shooter games, which I have no idea why we'd completely throw out an awesome genre of games. I'll agree that there's not enough good plat formers coming out, but there are smaller ones (Enslaved comes to mind) that are pretty good and not *huge* releases.

Prinny 2, Mega Man Powered Up, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Dracula X Chronicles, Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins, Metal Slug Anthology, Metal Slug XX, and Taito Legends Powered Up(includes Rastan, one of my favorite arcade games.) Yes, most of them are remakes or ports, but they're still official releases.
