Broken Wonderswan Color?

I just got a Wonderswan Color. Isn't it supposed to boot to the system menu when a game isn't inserted? I remember trying one a few years ago and am I pretty sure it did. My system just flashes white lines across the screen and turns off.

I don't have any games yet in order to figure this out on my own, so any help would be appreciated. :)

Someone I know recently bought a SwanCrystal but has no games for it as of yet. He reported to me the same behavior you described when attempting to power on without a game inserted into the cart slot. Unless you two both have WS broken in the exact same way, then I'd guess this is normal.

Disclaimer: I don't own or ever have used a WS as of yet.

The guy I spoke of now owns a game and has given me a little more info. He discovered that holding Start while powering on brings up the system menu. Testing this without a game inserted failed, so I guess you still need to have a game. Kind of odd, but I guess that's how it is. He says the menu simply allows you to enter a name, and your birth date, blood type, and gender, nothing more.
