According to this guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8BB9ttmgI4), Nights and Panzer Dragoon II both offer 16:9 support on Saturn.

Do I need a special cable for this? That sounds badass :)

They also say that Virtua Fighter 32X offers 16:9 support as well, which I've never heard of!

No, I think it's in the options. I'm pretty sure NiGHTS has a widescreen option.

If it's anything like some of the games on the N64 that offered 16:9, no. I remember Perfect Dark had it, and it woprked with the composite cable. Don't get things like HD or progressive scan confused with 16:9 capable. A lot of the older systems squeezed or letterboxed the game. So if you stretch the picture or zoom in the picture on your 16:9 TV then you can take advantage of these modes.

Night's widescreen mode is selectable from the options menu. As mentioned already, you don't need any special cables. It's not like it's HD or anything.

sega was ahead of the game, just tell the tv to be in wide mode.
PZ 2 looks great on my set, i also have the rgb upscaned with the xrgb2.

I would love to see that! I used to own PZ2 when it was first out and have always loved the game. I don't have a copy anymore and, surprisingly, I never see it in the wild :(

It's technically possible on almost any system. There's also a Sega CD game that has a widescreen option.

To clarify, it's not really a "mode" of the Saturn itself. It's purely in software. The game switches to a scrunched-up looking image which you are then supposed to tell your TV to stretch. It's not actually a widescreen resolution, nor can the Saturn flag video as 16:9.

What sega cd game?

games that had 2d images like the 2d backgrounds in nights they will looked streched but the 3d rendered elements will look proper.

Yeah, I use this mode all the time with NiGHTS...no other way to play it! Considering the speed going forward and backward, it's essential to me to have that wider display. You don't get any better resolution, but it allows you to stretch. A smart idea and once again something where SEGA was ahead of the cusp!
