Are there any good ones out there? I'm speaking outside of Zaxxon. I just played Viewpoint (Genesis) for the first time after having this game for more than a year. Had no idea it played like this. :embarrassed: Was kind of impressed, although it seems to have alot of slowdown. I see it was also released for NeoGeo, I guess it's safe to assume that one's much better? I'm just curious if there are any others worth tracking down? Any platform, I'll find a way to play. :)

The Neo-Geo version of Viewpoint came FIRST, and it's superior to any other version. The Genny port isn't half bad but as you said, there are some slowdown issues.
If you like Viewpoint you might also want to try out Motherbase 2000 for Sega 32X, Zaxxon's modern-day sequel. Or Super Zaxxon on several systems (C64 and Atari 8-bit work well) which is it's actual sequel.

If you're into Saturn imports, try Steamgear Mash. It's a short and fun isometric action game with free-roaming platform levels and linear shooting stages.

And if you need Steamgear Mash, I have a spare copy pristine mint with spine :D
Sadly, it's a very small sub-genre of shmups....aren't too many isometric shooters at all.

Don't forget Viewpoint for the PS One. BRUTALLY hard, but it looks outstanding.

Yeah, I agree with this. Most people HATE this rev with a passion, but I like it. Thought it was nice that they tweaked the GFX, and it's still a good looking game. Does have some slow down, but it's very playable, IMHO. And it is hard.
Isolated Warrior came out for NES. It was supposed to be pretty average.

Isolated Warrior is pretty average, but it has its charm. I still like to break it out and dust it off every now and then.

I have to give a nod here to my favorite 7800 game - Desert Falcon. Besides all the shooting you do, it gives you an element of strategy by being able to land on the ground, walk around, and pick up & combine different hieroglyphics to give your falcon special powers (or impediments, sometimes). It's a great, yet extremely obscure and overlooked game.
