View Full Version : Worst game in your collection

And why?
What's the best game in your collection?
The worst game in my collection would be...Toobin' (NES) or Winter Olympics (SNES). I'm not a fan of sports games, though I do have MLB 2K7 on the 360, but I just couldn't stand Toobin', and the olympics.. meh.
My best game - I have a soft spot for Final Fantasy, so normally I'd say FF1 or FF3 (SNES), but I'm going to attempt at a different game and different genre. It's going to be a tie between Donkey Kong Country, Mario All Stars, and Mario Bros 3.

Two games, one which I no longer have:
Ghost of Goblins for NES. I seriously despise this game. I hated it so much, I sold it to a friend.
Deception for PSOne. Not because it is horrible, but because of what it deals with. Silly I know, but I always hated that game for that reason alone.
Currently, I would say the worst NES game I have is Rocky and Bullwinkle.

The one I hate the most has always been Secret of the Stars. Horrible game. Then again, I haven't played even 5% of my dreamcast collection, so I'm not really sure but right now that one has the title.
The best game I have is Chrono Trigger for the DS.

Worst game? Probably Bubsy for Sega Genesis.
Best game? Well, it's a matter of personal taste, but I'd go with NiGHTS into Dreams... on Sega Saturn.

Oh wow, I have alot of bad games, but the worst would have to be PO'ed by Any Channel on the 3DO (Of course, most games on the 3DO suck anyway).

I try to avoid buying anything I KNOW is terrible, but a few rotten apples have made their way into my collection. The last game I played and hated was Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions for the Xbox. After reverting to a controller throwing, expletive spewing teenager by level 2 (I'm old enough to know better) I promptly ejected the game and traded it in to my local half price books.
So I guess technically it's the worst game that used to be in my collection...

Sports games were very crappy for the SNES. I was really pissed when I payed
$50 for a brand new Copy of "NFL Football" by Konami. All previous Konami games
were really great,,,,so I was excited to play this sports game. It was a stinker.
Best game???? Maybe yes,,,maybe No,,, But I Love to play the SNES game
"Legend of the Mistical Ninja" I am still stuck in the maze area that turns
back and forth. Just as an aside,,, I like the music track.

Wow, do I really get to be the first guy to mention ET? C'mon guys, this game almost singlehandedly killed the video game industry. You know it's pretty much crap, and you know you have a copy sitting somewhere, we all do.
Then again, I take an almost perverse pleasure in collecting games I know are terrible. I was delighted when I picked up Shaq-fu, lol.

Worst title? Just bought that one - Midway Arcade Treasures 3. What a glitchy, horribly emulated / ported mess. How this was ever pressed in the state it's in is beyond me. I actually felt cheated the $2.00 I paid.

Speaking of horrible messes, Soldier of Fortune on the Dreamcast. Four to five minute load times? Fuck that noise. It's the only game in my collection that I bought -twice- thinking it was broken. Well, it was.

Worst game? Criticom for the PS1. It's worse than ET by a freakin' mile. There are some other "gems" in my collection, like NES Barbie, NES Super Pitfall, my whole R-Zone "library", and some other stuff.
Best? Well I think Earthbound is really my favorite game in the collection, but I have some excellent underrated PS1 games (Top Shop, Mr Domino) and PS1 RPGs (SoTN, Grandia, Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden, etc.) and of course really great games on all my other systems. I guess the "best" title really just comes down to personal preference.

I did the same with the PS2 port of Ghostbusters. And yeah, turns out the game is just broken.
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 4, I don't really have very many shitty games.:eek 2:

Worst: INTV version of Donkey Kong... E.T. was alright, for what it was. INTV DK is not what it is (or should be) at all. Like a meth-head lobotomized monkey ported it.
Best: Most everything else, to varying degrees. I try not to get it or eventually get rid of it if it's not up to my standards.
Looks like the thread is shaping up to be a horrible port list. LOL

May I ask what you dislike about the game, I remember playing this to death on the PC what little I had played of it on the PSX I found it to be quite reasonable, certainly not WRC arcade standards or Colin Mcrae 2.0, but not to bad none the less.

The PC version was a good game, but the physics were ruined in the PSOne port. I love rally racers; there's not a console rally racer released in the US and UK that I haven't played and I've found each title enjoyable in some way.
I've also spent significant time in many PC rally titles like Richard Burns Rally, Rally Masters, the PC version of Mobil 1 Rally Championship, Rally Trophy, etc.
Beyond the graphics being serviceable and the intro video being decent, the PSOne version of Mobil 1 Rally Championship is horrible thanks to the handling physics. I can't imagine you spent more then 30-60 seconds with the PSOne port and didn't come away digusted at it. I'd much rather spend my time playing a bottom of the barrel rally title like Rally Challenge 2000 on the N64 then this game. It's that bad.
Of all the games I've hated (Such as Batman Forever on the SuperNes), this is the only one I wasn't able to find any redeeming value in. Games like E.T. on the Atari 2600 that are playable and enjoyable don't belong in the same category as this racer.
Here are some of the highlights of the first review for this port that popped up in a search engine (From GameSpot).
"If only the game were more pliable and less spastic"
"First off, steering is totally temperamental, even for a rally game. And you will find little solace in the adjustable settings; finding that perfect zone between over- and understeering is quite impossible. The smallest deviations from the ultrathin tracks are punished by wild spinouts and paralyzing crashes."
"The race conditions, while truly disparate and never redundant, have effects on the cars' performance that seem extremely off-kilter. Racing on snow feels as if you're battling the influence of magnets placed on either end of the track, periodically pulling you in to their respective fields, making your race feel more like a woozy zigzag than an earthy romp through merciless terrain."
"Powerslides are governed by the same temperamental physics: Their being the cornerstone of rally racing makes this flaw hard to swallow. Often, a mistimed slide will stop you dead in your tracks, when it should have merely propelled you farther in your desired direction, albeit at your flanks. Also, going offtrack seriously tars down your vehicle. Sad, because the offtrack element is such a huge part of the sport."
Of course the worst console title I own is Rayman on the PSOne. Two flawless disc I've purchased to play the dumb thing so far and both refuse to load in a PSOne, PS2, and a PS3. I'll grab a third copy someday and hope I can finally play the PSOne port eventually.

Worst is either Wheel of Fortune Family Edition(NES) or QBert.
No idea why I picked Wheel of Fortune up, but yeah. Then there's Qbert which plain sucks. I've never liked Qbert and think it's extremely boring.

I have strong hatred of Sonic & Black Knight. It remains the only 3D sonic game I've yet to complete. It's just... terrible. And I actually quite enjoyed Secret Rings.
Best...? That's almost impossible to decide. I'd could probably give you a top 10, which is in no order:
1. Shining Force III (Sat)
2. Chrono Trigger (Snes/DS)
3. Sonic Adventure 2 (DC/GC)
4. Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
5. Skies of Arcadia (DC/GC)
6. Pokemon Blue (GB)
7. Azure Dreams (PS)
8. Harvest Moon: BTN (PS)
9. Dragonforce (Sat)
10. Super Smash Bros Melee/Brawl (GC/Wii)
And even then I've missed some off and had to stop myself from mentioning multiple games from the same franchise.

Worst game I own? It'd be pretty hard to choose... um, some thoughts...
Battle Royale (TG16) - Utterly horrible game...
Supreme Warrior (32XCD) - Atrocious FMV "fighting" game with a below zero fun factor.
Tomcat Alley (Sega CD) - This is supposed to be a game? "Click on the correct button at the right time or you die" is a better description, and it's about as fun as that sounds... not at all.
Criticom (Saturn) - Yeah, this is a really, really bad fighting game. One of the worst 3d fighters around. I also have the developer's second 3d fighting game, Dark Rift (N64), and that game is also atrocious. I haven't played their third one, Cardinal Syn (PS1), though.
Shadow the Hedgehog (Xbox) - So atrocious... in the Sonic franchise probably only Sonic 2006 is worse.
Honorable Mentions:
Midnight Raiders (Sega CD) is another awful FMV game, but that one at least has some entertainment value, as broken as the game is, so it's not on the top list.
Bram Stoker's Dracula (Sega CD) - Such a bad game, bad controls, bad gameplay... nice backgrounds though. Too bad that's pretty much the only thing the game has going for it.
Double Switch (Sega CD) - Why did people think these FMV games (this one a Night Trap style game) were actually fun? I mean, I actually like the Sega CD quite a bit, not not for this junk...
Toy Story (Game Boy) - Special mention. I got this game back after it came out, and at the time I thought it was the worst game I had ever bought. The Lion King had been a little disappointing (such annoying controls!), but Toy Story was just so bad... I sold it several years later though, so I don't actually have it anymore -- but if I did, it well might be on the list. Slow gameplay, slow controls, confusing objectives at times, annoying precision required, and more... I know, in retrospect it's your average subpar licensed game, but for how much I hated it at the time I have to list it.
Tom & Jerry: The Movie (Game Gear) - The game's about 20 minutes long and repetitive. And not that fun either.
Eraser: Turnabout (PC) - Awful FMV-infused lightgun game based on the movie. I've owned this game for fifteen years and don't know if I've ever beaten more than one or two levels of it.
Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows (PS2) - Probably not an objectively terrible game, but as a Gauntlet fan I was extremely, extremely disappointed. This game is terribly bad as a Gauntlet game.
etc, there are more.
You have to learn how to play it (http://classicplastic.net/dvgi/publications-RTMnescadeKarateChamp.html).

MAT3 is an extremely disappointing, horribly broken collection, but it does contain the only home port of Off-Road Thunder, and what I think is the only home port of the Super Off-Road Track Pack too, so it's worth getting anyway... but yeah, it's a really badly done collection, and that is incredibly sad, considering how exceptional most of the games in the collection are.

I'm actually the type that would buy an infamous terrible game just to say that I have it, if it's cheap enough. But funnily enough, in this case my sister _unknowingly_ got a certain 80's 'gem' from a pawn shop for me a years back, none the wiser about it's unplayability. Needless to say, I indeed appreciated it all the same for collection purposes.
It was Back to the Future for the NES. A terrible game, which most people will play for five minutes, going through a bad top-down scrolling stage, and if surviving that, getting punched out by Biff until they lose the rest of their lives.
Anyway, to give a more recent runner up of badness.. I always like to tell people about how I managed to buy Turok: Evolution for three dollars.. and _still_ felt ripped off after I played it. You can tell it's a bad Turok game when even the _cheats_ are bad.

Intellivision Zaxxon
Intellivision Donkey Kong
Race Drivin' Genesis
Usually, I either got these games for free from a relative or friend or in at a yard sale with other games. Arcade Classics is especially frustrating. Not only didn't the developers port the arcade versions, but the ports didn't even do the versions they are based on (2600 missile command and 7800 Centipede, both of which I like quite a bit, especially 7800 Centipede with its 2 player modes) justice.

I own Madden NFL for SNES, which came out in 1992. Not that it's bad, but it's truly horrible compared to the Genesis version. The SNES version is horrible in it's sluggishness, choppiness, and awful frame rate.

Couldn't agree more. Volume 1 had some pretty big emulation issues, Volume 2 was a bit better ... but the typically decent folks at Digital Eclipse turned in a vomitous stinker in Volume 3. Everything about it is downright terrible.
That's one of the very very few games I bought new and wound up selling.

My 5:
-Space Jockey (Atari VCS/2600, frustrating control and enemy patterns)
-Silent Service (NES, just too complicated to play for an NES game, as far as sims go)
-The Tower of Druaga (Arcade, insane difficulty would've worked as a home game, but an arcade machine which requires money?)
-Barbie (Game Boy, hand-me-down that I hate enough to put it up on a high shelf to have it out of sight)
-The Rugrats Movie (Game Boy, it's like the Super Game Boy makes it worse!)

I intentionally keep around 2600 Rampage to show others what you should not try to do on the 2600, and to belie their disbelief that it got made.
Wow, do I really get to be the first guy to mention ET? C'mon guys, this game almost singlehandedly killed the video game industry. You know it's pretty much crap, and you know you have a copy sitting somewhere, we all do.
A lot of us here on DP can name 10 2600 games _alone_ that are worse than E.T., the go-to example everyone seems to chuck out as 'the worst. game. Ever.' Hell, just look at the Catalog for Data Age alone, and possibly apart from Frankenstein's Monster, you might have all the games you need. E.T. just gets cited a *LOT* in this category, and some variety would be nice...:-/ I'm not trying to flame, the last thing I want to do is start a posting war.

100% hands down worst game in my collection is pit-fighter for snes...
Whats sad about this is that when i had the game first time round i loved it. i played it for hours and hours on end. I recently spent a whoping 2 bucks for it at a local flea market and was shocked buy how bad it was... Now truth be told the first time round i had it on genesis but how different could it be right??? well, that was my thinkin anyway.
I honestly think i took more time cleaning the game then playing it...
2nd runner up is "wolverine adamantium rage" for the snes... the hit detection makes the game unplayable...

for me it would probably have to be ghostbusters on master system, or Contra legacy of war on saturn.
i kinda expected it out of ghostbusters, but wow, contra came out of nowhere.

Well, my worst game I have is 8 Eyes. It has a terrible stiff feel.
The best game I have though,I think, is Castlevania. Amazing game.
Um, I know 8 Eyes isn't anywhere near as good, but doesn't it play a lot like Castlevania?
I recently bought an Intellevision that came with 16 games for next to nothing. Now I see why.
I'm changing the worst game in my collection to My entire Intellevision library.
Harsh, man, harsh. The Intellivision has a ton of great games! Astrosmash, Snafu, Thin Ice, Nightstalker, Shark Shark, Buzz Bombers, etc.

I'd have to say a few of my imports. JPN version of Dark Legend on Saturn is horrible sluggish. I've heard the US release fixes it. Not interested in finding out for sure.
As much a Urusei Yatsura fan as I am, its Famicom and GB games are pretty lame. The former just too frustrating. The latter a maze crawler incomprehensible if you don't know Japanese...

With as many games as I have its really hard to pick the worst but the non jap version of Doom on the Saturn is pretty terrible along with any sport game on the SMS with "Great" in its title.

along with any sport game on the SMS with "Great" in its title.I love the Master System - it's one of my favorite consoles - but that's sadly true. Their first batch of sports titles were pretty bad. I thought Great Soccer was okay, though. Definitely not "Great." ;)

Okay Soccer just doesn't have that same ring to it.

I gotta change my worst game over to Demon Sword. Game blows butt holes.
