Does anyone here have extensive knowledge of the N64 from a collecting point of view. Ideally I'm interested in US and UK perspectives.

What do you need to know? I'd say I'm pretty well-versed, should finish off my complete NTSC US Complete in Box set within the next year or so. Got all of the rares out of the way just need to backfill sports and miscellaneous titles.

The idea is to create a definitive guide to the machine but from a collector's point of view for Retro Gamer. Therefore I'll need access to rare machine/peripheral variants and accurate prices for pal and US titles. I'm also looking at interviewing actual collectors to discover why they find the machine so desirable to collect on.

You should set up a meeting with finngamer on Youtube.
Also, I would help you, but I'm only a newbie in N64 collecting, so :(

There ya go.
(I would be willing to be interviewed though)

Lol the only N64 Claim I can make as a collector at this point is that I own every Rare [The Company] Game for the system ha thats not too impressive

For some reason though when I go out looking for stuff I rarely see N64 Games and if I do its always sports ones.

Well I have just about anything of relevance for the N64DD unit, if you go down that path also ;)

Second that, why ignore Japan?

I don't know what it is about some of the more desirable N64 games like Conker and Zelda, but they seem to hold their value. I often see these games going for $50-60 or more used, especially if they come complete with the box and manual.

I am a big fan of the N64 with a complete boxed US library(minus only a couple of manuals). I also did a Nintendo collectors DVD showcasing the "Nuts and Bolts" of collecting the system. If you need any additional people to interview, PM me.

I've been collecting N64 stuff for about 7 years. I own roughly 130 complete games and a few japan/UK exclusives. I've also done a lot of research on vaporware for the system if that's something you're interested in. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions and I'll supply you with more in depth responses.

Finngamer here, thanks for the plug, Pichu. :)

Just happened to stumble here while this was still fresh. I'm sure Lost Dream will contact me in YouTube if he finds me usable, but I might as well post here about my N64 passion.

A few years ago I committed to getting every game made for the N64. Not just USA or european games, but everything. With western games represented as either Euro or USA version (not both) and top the collection off with japanese exclusives. I now have all english language games and all but four of japanese games. Here's a video of the collection, though it is somewhat old and outdated:

And it's not just having the games, but every game (over 400) is also CIB. Box and manual of course, but all games also have their inner cartridge tray, consumer information leaflet and cartridge baggie. Yes, all of them. ;)

Nintendo 64 is also a fascinating subject to collect peripherals and accessories for. I own one of each peripheral in each of the three regions, and also own almost all variations of N64 controllers (nearly 50). Here's some videos of these:

I also also have seven consoles and a 64DD with everything except two of the games.

So I'd be very interested in being at anyones service who needs info on the N64. :)

I thought Retrogamer already did a retroinspection on the N64 a while back.

"A while back" here happens to be over four years ago heh...

(I should know, I wrote it!)

But there are only so many systems to cover... there are new ideas and areas to looking to cover certain machines again.

Congrats, you are, in my eyes, a real collector.
