So here's the deal. This year for my birthday, my roommate had a 3D cake of Darth Vader's helmet commissioned for me. It was freakin' amazing. Now his birthday is coming up in a week and I'd like to do something equally cool for him.

He had mentioned that he wanted to create a sort of lighted picture of a few of his favorite NES covers a while back. I was thinking about doing that for him and I know I saw something like that on the forums ages ago but I've been searching and can't seem to find it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or even give me some cool suggestions on something else to buy/make?

Thanks!

my suggestion:

you just gotta love a mario-based furniture. you know, a mushroom (what are they called?) carpet for instance? i've seen one before, it was made pixel graphic looking and it looked excactly like the 1-up shrooms in the mario series...

they just have to be pixelized as in mario. if the shroom is 14x14, the carpet is made of 14x14 of 1x1 sized pieces. but you know, just a suggestion

i can't really picture that nes thing in my mind..? hmm..

Really I don't see the appeal of overly pretty cakes. It is cake! It is meant to be destroyed, eaten, digested! To make it an aesthetically pleasing work of art is to deny its purpose!

Wow, those are some serious cakes. I'm kinda with you though, I don't really want to do a "pretty" cake. I like the idea of a piece of video game-related furniture or something he can hang on the wall in the gaming den.
