I was flipping through my old EGMs and I suddenly remembered that they reported once that Mattel was going to get back into video game console making. It was a small article, and I went through my old mags searching for it, but I couldn't find the article that I knew was in there: an announcement that the GigaIntellivision was coming. Anyone else hear this, or is my faulty memory acting up again? I was certain it was in there but again, I couldn't find it...

I can't say I remember hearing this, but I know the folks who own the Intellivision properties and they are FULL of ideas, some of which are finally seeing fruition, like the cell phone Intellivision games and the 25-in-1 handheld.
If I had a dime for every time Keith Robinson said "I've got a great idea for the next Intellivision product", we'd ALL be rich :)
And this is a good thing - as long as he's pimpin', you'll NEVER see the end of Intellivision.

The Giga Intellivision was an April Fool's prank that EGM pulled back in 1999 or 2000.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm trying to fight Sheng Long in the original Street Fighter II.

Didn't EGM also do some sort of portable Dreamcast article? I got all excited and then months after I found out it was an April Fool's joke.

As cool as that would be, that new 25-In-1 Intellivision toy looks pretty freakin' rad... Though, of course, it's sad that it's not shaped like the real controller (*Ducks thrown fruit*).
'course, that's probably material for another thread, hehe.

And while you're doing that, I'll be playing as Simon Belmont in the NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Heh. I remember that Sheng Long April Fool's Joke. IIRC, it was the first April Fool's Joke they printed.
I think I actually tried to get Sheng Long a couple of times, but the requirements set down were absolutely impossible.
Lessee if I remember this accurately....
You had to get double perfects on every character, then go 20 rounds or so with Bison, making sure to never hit him, and to not let him hit you. On the 21st round, Sheng Long would come out and toss Bison away a la Akuma and soundly stomp you into the ground.
What I think is amazing is that every power Sheng Long had, Capcom copied verbatim onto Ken in the later SF versions.
Sheng Long had a flaming Shoryuken, later Ken got this ability.
Sheng Long could throw Hadokens in midair, later a few characters got that skill (including Ken).
Sheng Long looked like a Ken or Ryu clone, with just a palette switch and a ponytail, later everyone got a larger palette swap, and Ken even got a ponytail.
I still get asked questions about getting Sonic in SSBM. Damn those crafty EGM writers.
