Dreamcast question.

Did the dreamcast come with a modem buil;t in or was an an add on?
Did the originals have it built in and later models seperate?
does EB, funco sell used ones with modems in there (acidently or on purpose)?

They're built in on every Dreamcast ever made and distributed, at least in the USA.

Most likely you won't find a used modem for sale. They came with ALL model dreamcasts (US/JPN, and I'm pretty sure Europe). I'm sure the only people that ever bought one seperate were people who bought them from Sega b/c it broke.

The broadband adaptor is a different story though.

Anyhow, IYO, it it easier to get an imported DC to play Jap titles or likely to use a boot cd to be able to play Jap titles (or somehow mod)?

The Asian version never came with a modem. I imported my DC months before it hit the States, and instead of a modem being there, there was just a plastic cover.

It would be much more difficult to get a Japanese DC. Just use any USA DC that can handle cd-r media, and use the Utopia Boot Loader. You can boot any Japanese title this way.

How can I see if my DC can boot cd-r media? A specific date on the machine?

Did you by any chance, use the Innovation Import game game adapter for dreamcast.I used it with my copy of shenmue 2 and I never had a problem with the Import game adapter or the import game itself.
