View Full Version : Capcom is a genius. Thoughts on Pre-DLC vs. Post-DLC (Deadrising 2: Case Zero)

For those of you who don't know, Deadrising 2 is the sequel to the original zombie classic Deadrising, which easily went platinum and sold tons of copies. Possibly the most fun zombie game I've ever played.

Deadrising 2 releases at the end of September, nearly a month away. Capcom was smart enough to realize that many of the fans are probably counting down the days until release and just itching to play.

So how did they resolve this? They released Deadrising 2: Case Zero yesterday for only $5 (400 MS points) as a downloadable game! It's much more than just a demo with several hours of gameplay and 12 MS achievements for 200 points. It also doesn't spoil the next game because it takes place in "Still Creek" which is not an accessible area in the full game.

I for one think this is absolutely brilliant. I have never bought a DLC item ever, usually because I finish the game and DLC comes out months later after I've already moved onto something else. By doing DLC on the front end, they'll get tons of sales and probably even attract more buyers to Deadrising 2 when it hits stores.

Here's another article with a more in-depth analysis:

Thoughts?

Darn, I really need to play the first game before tackling the second. Had it preordered for quite some time (CE edition), but can I play the new DLC without playing the first?

I really like the idea, as it's similar to Alan Wake's two chapters, this being a prequel (?) of sorts.

Yeah I really doubt you'd miss anything by not playing the original. The original was definitely bad ass, but the targeting has improved, the weapons are better (and now can be combined), and there's about 10x more zombies capable of being on screen at once (something like 800 vs 8,000).

I'd compare it to Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. You definitely could have played the 2nd without playing the first, and you picked the better of the two to play.

Grabbed this yesterday myself, but need to tear away from Scott Pilgrim first. It's the first game I've actually reserved in a long time.

Awesome!

Need to check how many points I have left, but I will be getting it today, for sure. I think I have enough points... :)

Damn, I am totally getting this. I never played through the actual game of Dead Rising. I just killed a bunch of zombies and ran around looking for wierd ways to kill them and that was it.

I played it the way I would do it if I was in a zombie attack: Take out a bunch of slow moving zombies and then once you get a hiding place that zombies can't enter, get there, stay there, and don't allow others to come in.

Hands down, one of the best XBLA games this year. Especially for $5! I've played it 3 times and still going back for more! I love the direction it's going and the fact your save file transfers over to the full game when it comes out Sept 28th!

I played through it once and now want to go back and go after achievement points.

I did get lucky when I was fighting Jed and he glitches while I was on top of some cars and he just stood there.

I could have easily beat Jed without that now that I know the secret to it.
