View Full Version : JVC X'eye loading the CD BIOS yet not cartridges.

This is a weird case. When I tested a Genesis 2 power adapter, the cartridge I'd tried worked yet CD games seemed a little flaky.

Now that I have a real CDX one things are different. With the cartridge side, the TMSS screen appears than goes blank and doesn't start up the cart. As for the CD side, the BIOS screen loads fine but I don't at the moment have a controller to get in-game with.

I suppose my Mega Master converter could factor in. Maybe shorted out the slot or bent its pins? No clue. It wasn't removed when powered or anything stupid like that.

Though I've never found any proof whether the X'eye supports SMS mode. (My guess is that's because Sega only released Power Base Converter 2 in regions X'eye wasn't, so nobody bothered to test.)

Well, I can't do much further testing with no controller.

How do I clean the slot? Might be worth trying first. But just in case tell me the right way to open this system.

So far I can tell you cartridges do get detected *every* time, even dirty ones. Not once has the CD BIOS appeared when it shouldn't.

Take the system apart.
I need some pictures as i have not seen the system never worked on one of these units before cant be much driffernt from the cdx sega cds systems.
once you have taken the system apart then buy a cheap tooth bush
and get some alcohol %70 and clean thecart solt
does the bios boot strat away if not it could be caps.
i cant relly say unless i or we had some pictures take care hopr you can get this system fixed

Caps? Maybe, I doubt there's many other explanations.

Don't have the least clue how to tell good and bad ones apart. Nor do I care to find out, NOT interested in that particular field. :(

I did get a picture. Probably doesn't show close enough detail to be very useful...

Hmmmm, I wonder if something burnt out becuase something was spilled into the cartridge slot? Seems around the edge of the cart slot some sign of corrosion?

Dunno, I haven't looked too good at it. I'm thinking I'd want repair in the US. Foreign postage would kill the thought given what I paid.

OK. As a test it's up for sale. I'll likely box it back up and wait if no one bites. Broken or not I don't want to let this go cheap.
