View Full Version : My Wife is almost sold on the Wii. Help me close the deal!
Hey, everyone. After months of mentioning the Wii, I have finally gotten my Wife to the point where she's interested. She just saw the commercial for Just Dance 2 and expressed a desire to play it. What other games can I show her to really help her along? I appreciate it, guys. Thanks!

If she's interested in dancing/rhythm games, the DDR Hottest Party games are pretty fun and easy to learn. And the Wii Sports/Resort games have a good track record of sucking non-gamers in (though fortunately both come with the system now)

then start showing the other things it can do, like netflix, and other downloads.

If you want the Wii, BUY IT .... but don't get your wife into this boring gamedom of the Wii.
It can be fun a few times but after one month she will not remember that little plastic box. It was like this with my wife, only difference was that she wanted the console and i had purchase the Wii, extra wiimote, 2 nunchucks and Wii Fit ...
The first month she had fun with the console but she hasn't touched that stupid machine in 8 months ...

Ask nicely and besides a Wii, she might hand back your balls.

Tell her Oprah, Martha Stewart, Rachel Ray, Ellen and The View panel all have one?
Thanks to those of you who gave constructive feedback on this one. I appreciate the suggestions.
The rest of you, meh. Some of you are funny, and I can appreciate humor. Thanks, fellas.
Polo, you can grow up any time now. There's no need to be that much of a dick to someone who asked an honest question. If you could refrain from posting in the thread again, that'd be great.

In all seriousness NCN, I'd really think about whether you actually want a Wii.
I've had mine for 2 years (three? dunno) and I never play it. I'll play it occassionally if a new game comes out that I really want, but otherwise it never gets used.
Last time I played it was for Mario Galaxy 2.
My ps3 and 360 on the other hand get used all the time.

If your wife is like mine, after I would tell her that, she'd ask me if I thought she needed to lose a few pounds.
Invariably, I'd end up sleeping on the couch.

Polo was crude, but why do you need your wife's permission to get a Wii? Do you not make much money, so a gaming console is a huge investment for you? If that's the case, you may want to put your priorities elsewhere rather than a gaming console.

Seriously, this is the real question !!
Why do you need your wife's permission to get the console !!??? *_*
I don't know how many gamers want to drag his wife into gaming .... there are way too much more interesting ways of having fun and have quality time with your wife than just sitting in front of the TV for a few hours ;)
And if you want to play Wii or something else, do it in the midnight, saturday or sunday morning if you don't work or before dinner ... i don't know, maybe you can make you "gaming day" once a week, be smart and creative !.
When i play 1 hour for 2 o 3 days straight I try to take my wife out to a nice dinner, clubbing or a weekend getaway to compensate the time i spend gaming :D

If your wife is good at games I'd recommend New Super Mario Bros Wii. The game controls feel a little bit delayed, the new motion control additions suck, and the game feels somewhat floaty in comparison to old Mario titles is really the only bad thing about it in my opinion. The feels like a mix between Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World, turned 3d and then watered down a bit to not be nearly as good.
That'd be a really good family type game if she's also somewhat good at video games. Infact, playing two player is much easier than playing one player, as most ? box with a mushroom will give a helicopter type hat which makes certain somewhat difficult stages a walk in the park.
Super Smash Bros Brawl is also good.
Other than that it's hard to say anything good about the Wii. It's an innacurate piece of garbage that is built for motion control yet doesn't handle any better than Nintendo's first attempt. Atleast the Power Glove had a cool name.
If you collect NES games then why not pick up the Power Glove instead. It has the same kind of response that the Wiimote has, and when your wife no longer wants to mess with it, then the system itself will still be played.

Maybe you should just rent/borrow one for a weekend and see how the two of you like it.
I found the Wii to be a fun distraction for a few days, but after that, the mediocre graphics and anaemic game library just overwhelm the novelty of it.
Oh yeah, and if money is a concern, be aware that the glut of add-ons and peripherals for the Wii make the cost of owning one ramp up pretty damn quick.

To me, the Wii is perfect for 8/16bit emulation on the TV. That's about it.

Are you talking about a modded Wii? The Virtual Console has a lot of holes in its library.

I don't know how many of the posters giving NCN crap about asking his wife are actually married, but in my experience any purchase over a $100 should be agreed upon by both partners. It shouldn't be about asking permission but working together financially.

$100 is chump change. That's like one nice meal and a few drinks at a restaurant.
Would you ask for your spouse's permission take take a friend to lunch?

I think that this thread couldn't be more off topic. $100 to a lot of people is a lot of money.
The topic is:
Can we offer tips to help OP convince his wife to go for a Wii?
The topic is not:
Should OP consult with wife before buying Wii?
While parts of this thread have been kind of funny, a lot of it has been pretty negative and unpleasant.
edit: Also, I would check with my wife before spending $100. Not because I feel that I'd have to, but I just think it's the right thing to do, but there I'm getting off topic myself.

You do not want to start a discretionary spending war with your wife guys... Duh! Play nice, because face it, she can utterly and effortlessly massacre you at that game. Consider her Lao-Tse with a Visa.

My wife is pretty interested in that new Mickey Mouse game comming out. And the games by Nintendo are all generally pretty great. Otherwise we allways have a lot of fun when people come over and we fire up a 4 player game...of pretty much anything. Even Wii Sports is a lot of fun in that setting.

Wii Sports Resort features accurate control - its diverse and alot of fun. As previously mentioned in the thread, the game is now a pack-in with the system, so there is value in that right off the bat.
Mario Kart Wii is one I've personally seen a relative non-gaming female play with her guy and suddenly become really interested in getting a Wii.
Seems to be alot of Wii disgruntledness in this thread. Personally, I play mine all the time.
But.. I'm a Nintendo guy. To me, this is the best time to be a Mario fan since the NES days.

I find Wii Sports unbearable as a party game. If I'm going to play games with people, I want it to be simultaneous multiplayer, like Smash Bros. or Mario Kart. I enjoy Wii Sports/Sports Resort on my own or with one other person, but any more than that and it just gets boring and slow, especially for stuff like bowling.

What you should do is rent a Wii and a couple of games , controllers etc. and invite some freinds (couples) over for a dinner/Wii party. I guarantee that you will be shopping for your own Wii in the next couple of days.

I think it was Zelda's Crossbow Training that put my wife over the edge on getting a wii, believe it or not. She really liked that game, though it doesn't have the depth to really keep the system turned on regularly for more than a week or two.
Since I bring it up, are there any other Wii target shooting games that I should look into?

Maybe kedawa can just give you his for free. His is just gathering dust and he feels that any money you might pay him for it would just be chump change anyways. Plus, if he is married, he doesn't need to talk to his wife about such decisions before hand. ;)

Tell your wife NOT to buy it, my wife recently bought one for herself... she played it once and was bored with the damn thing... Now I have it here catching a lot of dust... Waste of money and space.. Keeping it for my daughter now.
