View Full Version : Your most wanted sequels will (probably) never happen?
Swamperon

Curious to see what sequels other people really want but are never going to materialize. For me it's:
Chrono Trigger 'Break'.
Skies of Arcadia II: Even the rumours about this one have died down.
Shining Force IV: Camelot willing, Sega not so much (at least what I've heard)
Azure Dreams 2: That craptacular 'spiritual sequel' on DS does not count.
Billy Hatcher 2
Eternal Darkness 2: This is more feasible than the rest but Too Human keeps getting in the way :-(
NiGHTS 3: If only to apologise for the mistake of NiGHTS: JoD
Dragon Force 3
Mischief Makers 2!
Interesting how most of these are Sega properties... damn Sega!
EDIT: (*THAT will never happen, urgh hangover)

Streets of Rage 4
Burning Rangers 2
Daytona USA 4
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker 2
I actually don't wish to see a NiGHTS 3, the original NiGHTS was so good there didn't need to be a sequel IMO, and that's what Yuji Naka said as to why there wasn't going to be a sequel. JoD was terrible, it should have never been made.

Some I would like are:
Eternal Darkness 2
Dreamfall 2
Lunar 3
HotD 5
Virtua Cop 4
Actraiser 3
Keio Yuugekitai (Flying Squadron) 3
Though I want a good number of sequels beyond those I just mentioned, I sometimes almost DON'T want them because I fear of the companies screwing them up by turning them into some horrid "update" like TMNT IV Reshelled...
There are some sequels I would want but I dont miss too much, like Streets of Rage and Final Fight only because I have "almost" real sequels to them like Streets of Rage Remake and my own update to Hyper Final Fight...

-Solomon's Key 3/Fire 'n Ice 2
This is probably more likely to happen eventually, at least in regards to the former (although the Monster Rancher/Solomon crossover on GBC could count as the third, perhaps). The Solomon games are a great, clever bunch of puzzlers, and of course a level editor to keep things going in the longrun is always appreciated.
-The Krion Conquest 2/Magical Kids Doropie 2
Yes, I know it is a blatant Megaman ripoff. However, I am a huge Megaman fan and because of the overt similarities, enjoyed this one just as much, and think of it as somewhat of a sidestory or spiritual sequel. I love that witch Francesca/Doropie. There was at least a modified mobile phone port that was produced fairly recently, but that doesn't say a whole lot, sadly.
EDIT: Surprise! I found out there is a doujin sequel to this! News at 11!
-Chameleon Twist 3
While the first two were pretty easy for the most part and had their shortcomings, I enjoyed them nonetheless. I have also recently contacted Hideyuki Nakanishi (who also happens to be the creator of Bound High) and he said there are no plans to make another, though if the source code is still extant he could always port it in a compilation package or at least to the Virtual Console. Still, it would be nice to see another one be made which would contain all that WAS good about the originals, and correct whatever WASN'T.
-Illbleed 2
Another cult classic which was slated to get an XBOX port but never did. I remember sitting in the dark playing through it for a week and then almost 2-3 more times straight through to get all the endings. I really did enjoy it, and it gave me both chills and laughs with its odd mix of horror and black humor.
And I second Mischief Makers 2. ;)

Oddworld 4, or another Abe game. Actually, just another Abe game would be fine.
Another 2D Turrican. On XBLA.
Another Body Harvest.
A brand-new Dizzy game. Again on XBLA.
ToeJam & Earl 4. Am I the only one here who preferred Panic on Funkotron to the original?
Proper, 2D, top-down Micro Machines with the silly characters like Walter the fat bastard and Violet Berlin from Bad Influence. On XBLA. With multiplayer. And '96's track editor.
Most of all, though... another Elite game. On PC woth HD graphics. I may never leave the house again if that comes out.

Certainly do! It came out next to christmas so I thought I'd treat myself. £35 it cost me.
I soon discovered how inferior it was to the original. If they had just stuck to the original gameplay but had more levels it would have been fine. Sega have a tendency to screw up their old franchises which is why I wish they'd just sell Shining Force to Camelot... :(
Also, Sonic Adventure 3! Although Sonic Colours is looking pretty good.

I know a LOT of people (myself included) who would pay serious money for a set of updates to the MtG: Duels of the Planeswalkers game (the MicroProse '90s PC game, NOT the more recent XBox versions). It only includes cards up until The Dark, which is just a shame. The RPG-like elements were really well done, and it's a game I still play, even though it's horribly dated. Someone on the SomethingAwful forums tried this years ago, but bailed, most likely because creating the card engine by yourself is damn near impossible.

It'd be nice to have a sequel to Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon/Goemon's Great Adventure. (Or at least for most of the un-exported Japanese releases to be localized.)
I also know at least a few people have been rallying for a Darkstalkers sequel lately for some particular reason. On the note of fighters; Capcom Vs. SNK 3. I'm also still hopeful that someday we'll get an Arc System Works vs. Capcom fighter of some sort...
Perhaps Aerobiz? The last update to that game I have in memory (Aerobiz SuperSonic) has not been an accurate representation of the 2000s decade at all. Same goes for any old game which tried to be "realistic" while at the same time trying to predict the future.
And on the note of one that'll "most certainly never happen", the Old-Cartoon Ninja Turtles - seriously, every Ninja Turtles video game since the original TV Series ended has simply not been able to capture the original appeal - even "Turtles in Time Re-Shelled" seemed to completely lack the original feel of the arcade it was based on, and I'm not just referring to the graphics or sound being changed.

It's a "love letter" to the game, but it's not a sequel or even a spiritual successor. If anything it takes several steps back from what you could do in the NES game.

IMO Marvel Ultimate Alliance deviates too much from the X-Men story to be considered a sequel to an X-Men game. Plus you barely get any X-Men characters, just a handful. Most characters in the game are Avengers. Making more X-Men characters playable would be better than this.

Yes! I'm still waiting on 'Banjo Threeie', thankfully Nuts & Bolts didn't sell particularly well as far as I'm aware so they probably won't continue that 'innovation'.
I'm remember reading Streets of Rage 4 was at one point in development for the Dreamcast but it didn't get very far. Also SM64, DK64 and FF9 have all arguably had/are getting sequels, or as much of a sequel we'll ever see.
