Genesis copy of Gunstar Heroes.
PAL (megadrive 1) console

kind of a silly question -- will this work or do i need an adapter? i read that the earlier PAL megadrives don't need adapters for a lot of games....

any help appreciated....

I don't think there will be a problem.
a good chunk of genesis/megadrive games had no region coding, and were really just label swaps from between versions.
in fact, some even had english and japanese on the same cart, and the region of the system dictated what the game displayed.

anyway, if it gives you trouble, i'm sure there's a game genie code to remove the region check, or you can do this, it's real easy:

It will be fine. I just downloaded the European ROM and booted it up in an emulator with JP region set and it started up fine, therefore there will be no problem for you. Gunstar Heroes is not region locked.

USA <-> Europe Megadrive/Genesis game cartridges are very similar and unlike the Japanese cartridges, they're compatible as far as hardware goes, so you will have no problem inserting the game into your Megadrive, either.

Actually it is. I tested the European ROM as well and it would only boot with the emulator set for European games. The American and Japanese versions are region-locked as well.

You will need it, I just tested my pal copy of the game in my jap and usa consoles and both needed a mega key for them to work, I would assume the Genesis copy would be no different.

if you happen to have a game genie you can find (or make) codes that break the region codes, might be cheaper then an adaptor.

Tony's Game Genie Guide on this very forum has codes to help break the lock out.
