Swapping an ST-Key with a Ram Cart

I may be getting a cheap copy of Vampire Savior with the Ram cart soon. All I have is an ST-Key, which can apparently be swapped-out for the other cart. Have you guys had any experience with this? I would make it easy and just go for the 4-in-1 if my budget would allow. I'm sure this sort of method isn't good on the system, but it'll only be used short-term until one of those fancy converters comes my way.

The swap trick works but don't do it if you want your Saturn to actually still work. Swapping out carts while the system is on can damage the cart slot or, even worse, break your Saturn. Even though you only plan on using this method as a temporary thing, doing it even once can break the system.
