I didn't beat it for a long time after it came out. I beat Mario 2 when it came out, but Mario 1 I stalled with. Still a good game though.

This was the first game I beat, when I was 7 or so. I really don't get why people think it's so impossibly difficult. The maze stages confused my five-year-old self, but aside from that, it was a breeze compared to some of the other impossible NES games of the time.

I similiarly didn't fully beat SMB until.. Last year, in fact. I decided to finally finish it, and was feeling confident after I beat the secret boss in Cave Story.

...Then I was humbled as it took me more tries than I would have lived to finish the last level. Lousy mazes and hammer bros.

That said, SMB coming out in 1985 was a fine date in my memory for a few certain personal reasons, so this was a nice reminder. Maybe I'll have to play a little more of it just to celebrate.
