PS3 on the blink

I don't know much about PS3's but I have the chance to fix and acquire one.

From what I can see, it's fine in standby mode (red LED) but when you turn it on, it pauses for a second and the Green LED flashes for a while and turn its self off/waits for you too. There is a disc inside (if that makes any difference).

If anyone can help it'd be very much appreciated.

Fat or slim? Dunno what YLOD symptoms typically are. Heat issues with the fat PS3 were why I decided to get a slim, even though I do know how to fix a fat PS3. That and I have a perfectly good PS2 to, you know, run PS2 games (what a concept!).
