Dunno how long ago it started (Who checks the Wisdom Tree website anyway?) but Wisdom Tree is hosting a contest to see who can get the highest scores on their NES "classics" from back in the day, it's in conjunction with the new Arcade section of their site, where you can play the aforementioned "classics" online.

I think it'd be neat to see who is masochistic enough to play Bible Adventures till the end, for fabulous prizes, such as RELIGIOUS VIDEO GAMES.

(Seriously, I've mentioned this in case any one here actually happens to be good at Exodus or something. Even if the prizes suck I guess if one had some time to mess around trying for a high score on one of these games couldn't be a *complete* waste of time.)

Discuss.

It's easy to photoshop a picture and submit the scores. Wisdom Tree may have to confront this dilema.

I like the idea, though.

Even funnier, you could warp their way of screengrabbing and use MS Paint's brush and eyedropper tools to 'shop it. LOL

Maybe they need to cut a deal with one of the pirate NES-on-a-chip companies in China and create their own religiously themed plug-and-play. I've seen Color Dreams games on a 'legal' plug-and-play device, they should try designing its case to look like a bible. Or like a crucifix, held sideways with Jesus's face as the D-pad! All those Christian book stores would love to sell those.

I would think an ΙΧΘΥΣ would be a more ergonomic-friendly layout for such a device. And in either case you know you'd buy one if it existed. I would.

Feel free to Christian-bash all you want here, guys, but give Wisdom Tree some credit for a) making a good chunk of their back-catalog freely available for play via web-based emulation, and b) sponsoring a retro-game contest with said back-catalog. Isn't this the kind of retro-community support we're always bellyaching about not getting from the bigger companies? You generally can't get them to do something like that unless there's a hefty profit in it for them.

Incidentally I'm not sure how current this contest is. Those screenshots for the screen captures look like they came off of XP, or maybe even some older version of Windows Server. Still, I give them their props for doing something like this.

I clicked their link to the arcade section(posted on the contest page) and got an error page. I guess their website is coded as well as their games were. Their high tech method of asking for screen captures for high scores is exactly what I would expect from them, it's a step above just asking for high scores and trusting what people tell them.

Also, I was fully aware that Wisdom Tree is still around. Supposedly you can still purchase new copies of King James Bible for Gameboy.

The only way I could get to that order page was through google. I've tried finding it through their website and couldn't find any links to it. They've either sold out of games and forgot to completely remove that page, or they didn't link it properly to their website. Either way it shows the same detail and dedication to quality that we've all come to know and expect from them.

Their arcade section is still up, it's just not linked properly from the contest page. I'll post the proper link.
