I got a Hori Fighting Stick EX2 for 360/PC a few months ago.

I've just recently tried hooking it up to PC. It is detected and is set up, but the joystick is distributed as a hat instead of a joystick. This sucks because it won't work under MAME :(

I found some instructions for hooking it up, namely programs called joytokey (didn't work), and xpadder (didn't work). I also found a few links to XBDC with a custom controls scheme, but that didn't work either, as the download links don't work (the site has since gone 404).

Has anyone else had success?

It works with some things, e.g. a Steam game called Altitude and Magic Engine.

I have the same stick. It really is a pain in the ass that you can't navigate menus in mame with it, but I only use the menus to set up the game initially anyway.
I used to run XBCD for it, but after my last reinstall, I was unable to track down a version of XBCD that worked properly with it, so I just use the default drivers and deal with the POV hat controls.

I can't even use it in-game. For some reason it's always going left. The stick itself is fine and works well on the 360 and some pc emulators, just not mame. :(

You can't configure Mame to use the hat buttons? That's strange.
