Anyone else pumped fpr sonic 4 next monday? I really hate the whole download concept (I would rather have a disk) but I love the original sonic series for the genesis. I will have this as soon as it shows up on the download channel. :guitar::guitar::guitar:

Also waiting on sonic colors next month.

I really hope they make a demo available for both so I can try them before I put my hard earned cash down.

I'm not too thrilled on the "episode" releases of Sonic 4. Seems like just a way to drag it out and make gamers pay more money. But, I will be keeping my eye out (a demo would definitely be nice!).

My feelings exactly. Just make the game and be done with it. None of the other sonic games have "Episode" in the title. What is this.... Star Wars? Actually Sonic meets Stars Wars has some potential. :-)

I don't see why there wouldn't be. I'll definitely be playing that before I consider downloading this game. I love Sonic but I don't want to download the first three episodes just to hear that they they decided to launch a retail disc with episodes 1-4.

If you've got XBLA, all titles released on that have demos.

Not exactly. Many AAA titles do not have demos, such as Halo 3, ODST, Halo Reach, Gears 1, Gears 2, GTA: 4, GTA: Episodes From Liberty City, COD: Modern Warfare, Left 4 Dead and Mass Effect. Although a few of those games had beta versions, they were all very limited two week(or less) periods and were not always "open" so not everyone got to play them.

But for the most part 90-95% of all Xbox 360 games(retail, arcade, indie) are released in demo form. I'm guessing that the remaining 5% percent don't get demos because of either time restraints or developer fears that those demos will be exploited in some way and that the exploit will somehow carry over to the full game.

It's understandable that GTA doesn't have a demo, it's a massive open world game with no in game barriers, though they could have created a demo similar to how Just Cause 2 or Infamous did(which JC2 is a demo I'm glad I did play because I hated the game, even though I originally thought I'd love it.)

As for first party games. On the PSN side of things, a lot of the games do have demos. Killzone 2, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, LBP, Modnation Racers, Infamous, God of War 3, Gran Turismo HD(had two demos, both are no longer available, and I'm sure we'll get one after the game releases,) and Wipeout HD are examples, though there are others that don't have demos. However, Uncharted 2 even had a a multiplayer demo which lasted for awhile until the game came out. Also glad I played the LBP and Modnation Racers demos as they aren't good enough to pick up at any price and both games I was interested in prior to the demo releases.

You listed Modern Warfare, which didn't get a demo on either PSN or XBL, but Modern Warfare 2 did.

If Rocket Knight can give us a demo as large as it was(somewhat,) a game which I was tempted to buy many times, then Sega could atleast give us one stage with Sonic. Most of Sega's recently releases have came to the PSN in demo format whether it was PSP or PS360, so I'd assume Sonic would also.

Im gonna check out the demo and probably find out its better than everyones expectations. It seems sega has been delaying the game cause of the fanboys bitching and criticisms are getting to them that they keep tweaking the game.

Good, I'd rather wait, and have a decent product, than a rush job. If a month or two delay means they fix a bug or two, or fix his weird walking, then I'll wait. Sonic already leaves a bad enough taste in people's mouths nowadays, where we simply don't need another mediocre Sonic game.

Well yes, but as the original poster said, all Xbox Live Arcade titles do get demos. So there will be a Sonic 4 demo. My only worry is that 1200 points is quite a lot if there are a lot of episodes and then if they do finally release a disc based version we'll be worse off. Screwing the loyal fans once again who pay more to get content sooner and don't even get a physical copy of it,

I know I'm looking forward to playing S4E1, but since the Wii is back home I won't be playing that game until I visit. However with a holiday break starting on October 14 you can be sure that playing that Sonic game will be a priority for my visit to the homestead. :)

The previews left me unimpressed, especially some of the animation and including of the homing attack, but if the reviews are good and I get a chance to play it, I'll give it a shot.

I'm waiting for the PS3 release so I can share it with the teenager that lives next door. I usually like the newer handheld Sonic games so I should probably like this. Even if it's not as good as the classics it will still probably be more fun than other new types of games I am not used to playing. First I will try a demo if there is one. And I figure if Episode 1 does well, then Episodes 2, 3 & 4 will probably automatically be quite similar meaning instant purchases.

I see. I know that all arcade titles are "suppose" to have demos but I could have sworn I've come across one or two that didn't. But that would still mean that the other 99.9% had them. If I can find those titles I'll edit this post.

IMO ts stil not as good as sonic 3&K ,you really have to rely on the homing attacks to keep speed otherwise sonic is pretty slow.

Its a far sight better then most Sonic games to make an appearance in the last 15 years or so but if anything is just fun for nostalgic reasons more so then being a good game.

I am getting it Day 1 gaurenteed.

IGN did a review of it and the exact words the dude says at the end is, "Sonic is back Baby!"

I will be the judge of that. I might even call into work and play the crap out of ep1 pretty much all day.

I have not been this excited for a game in years.

I got the PS3 version and it's fun. The mechanics have a new feel but they're not super terrible or anything. Just don't expect the gameplay to be as smooth as the Genesis titles. It actually is quite a challenge to get through until you play each level a few times. Right now I'm working on getting the Emeralds.

There are only 4 main zones with 3 acts each + a 4th boss fight level. And a final boss level. Add it all together and that makes 17 main levels and 7 sepcial stages.

That's pretty good considering this is only Episode 1. I'm wondering if they'll release all the Episodes (once all of them are out) in one game as a disc or something. That'd be nice to have on the shelf next to Sonic 1, 2, and 3! :)

Getting this on PSN today, can't wait!

Just played the demo, and it looks pretty good. I wasn't blown away, but it was fun. The movements in the air are kinda cumbersome, but the homing attack more or less makes up for it. I'll get the full game when/if they release it on a disc.

Picked up the demo which I've played a couple of times, which of course equals five minutes play time. This is Sonic though, so it's forgiven.

...It's basically the advance/Rush games only on a home console. Not necessarily a bad thing but it's almost as if Sega have forgotten how to make those crisp and sharp moves from the 16-bit era, everything just feels a little... sticky for my liking. And I'm not impressed by a pricetag of 1200 points for four zones.

Like just about everyone else, I'll probably get it if/when they make a compilation disc of all the episodes.

Download the game on Monday, and I have to say its really good. The homing attack is ok, but it works. I was pretty sure they would include that. The 2, and 3rd zones are great. My favorite levels are always the pinball levels, and thank God their in the game.

I really like the game, and I think most sonic fans will, but to each his own.

Enjoying it so far. My only complaints are the homing attack is taking a lot of getting used to, and there's no momentum when you jump, like if you let go of the D-pad when you're moving in midair, you immediately stop and fall to the ground. Kindof annoying.

Graham Mitchell
10-14-2010, 11:40 AM
I downloaded the game last night, and it's pretty fun! My main gripe with the Genesis Sonic games was how difficult it was to play the game "pefectly" and get all the chaos emeralds. If you don't get it in one level, you have to play through the whole game again to get another shot at it. Sonic 4 is nice because you can pick any stage you want at any time to go for a perfect run.

However, am I the only one who's not too impressed with the visuals? I mean, the resolution is nice, but I was really more impressed by the 16-bit games. I guess it has to do with the fact that the 16-bit games pushed the Mega Drive/Genny as far as it could go at the time, while compared to other 2D 360 games (like Blade Kitten, which is great if you guys haven't checked it out) this is a pretty weak showing visually.

Also, many of the levels are just re-visits of concepts from Sonic 1 and 2. The first Eggman boss is almost identical to the first boss from Sonic 1. And as cool as the Casino zone is, we've seen this before. (And better.) Just my 2 mesetas.

The 1 2 P
10-14-2010, 07:13 PM
I've played the demo and have to admit that this game definitely feels like the original three. The homing attack takes a little getting use to and it's very easy to lose speed after going thru loops if you aren't pushing in the correct direction(which changes very quickly). But it still seems like a very worthwhile follow-up and I will be picking this up eventually. Looks like Sonic is finally back.

10-18-2010, 04:53 PM
I'm 2/3ds of the way through this and I'm pretty happy with it and think it's a huge step in the right direction for sonic. It does have some faults though.

The physics are a bit off but not so much they kill it or anything. There are some unsonic like moments like the moving wall section and the graphics could have been updated a bit more. And the biggest one is that they rehashed some levels from previous soic games. That was to be expected though. Over all I'm having a great time with it. If they fix some of these things for episode two we could be in for something really great next year.

The only really bad things are that it took 16 years and ended up being episodic rather than a full disc release. Sonic's back and it's about damn time.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Didn't care for that dropping momentum thing. The final boss was an awesome reference to an old final boss, but it goes on way too long.

The physics should have been handled better. Some one must of tok a few hits from the crack pipe when they programed them. But I dont find them horrible like alot of people have said.

Ya, sonic colors looks like a fun game. I'll get it as long as it dosent get horrible reviews.

Vlcice
10-21-2010, 01:45 PM
The physics did bother me a lot. The real problem is a lack of momentum - I don't like the way Sonic slows down when he jumps, or how he doesn't retain momentum unless you're holding a direction while in the air. It makes movement feel much less freeform and natural, which isn't good for a Sonic game - and it makes me afraid to jump or fall off a ledge at any time because that means losing speed. It makes the game feel more on rails, since the options are very limited if I don't want to lose my momentum.

What confuses me is that this is allegedly based on the Sonic Rush engine, and I enjoyed that game a lot. I know some people (*cough* Kid Fenris) have accused anyone who didn't like Sonic 4 as only enjoying Sonic games they played when they were 11, but Sonic Rush had physics that worked just fine and I had a lot of fun playing that game.

The level design doesn't seem bad from what I saw in the demo. If the physics were improved I could see myself enjoying the game, but I don't think I can have fun playing it like this.

Baloo
10-21-2010, 08:06 PM
What a disappointment! The physics ruin the game, it's so easy to lose momentum, and the jumping is fucked. Spin Dash is very slow, and overall the physics are just really sub-par. IMO it makes the game not worth it.

Can't believe all this, and it's Episodic too....

Played the demo, I was disappointed. Played Sonic 3 today and I was in love. It should have been more like Sonic 1/2/3 and less like "Sega's attempt to market 1990's gaming goodness to the newer generation".

Still, this is the best Sonic game I've played since 3 but that's not saying much; the transition to 3D screwed the series imo.

Rob2600
10-22-2010, 03:42 PM
the transition to 3D screwed the series

Sega tried to take Sonic in the same direction as Super Mario 64. We all see how that turned out in the long run (Sonic Unleashed vs. Super Mario Galaxy 2).
