So I finally took the plunge and played Minecraft this last Friday. I think I've put over 24 hours into this game since then. And that's just time playing, not reading about it online, setting up a server, etc. That's probably close to my average monthly gaming time.
Is anyone else helplessly addicted to Minecraft? I was surprised to find not a single mention of the game on DP.
If we have some players around here, I'll probably set up a server where we can build random crap, or maybe video game related monuments. Oh yeah, I'm playing the Alpha version.

Someone was trying to rope me into this game yesterday, actually. I hear it's fun as hell.
That scares me, so I am avoiding it. I don't have time to play the games in the queue as is :(
I did manage to sink 160 hours into DQ9 though - apparently I'm a portable gamer now?

I never tried World of Warcraft for the same reason.

I tried it.
Ten minutes later I was so BORED I deleted the game.
I can see how it could be thought of as fun... but... it just wasn't for me.

I still can't get a straight answer out of anyone on what the big deal is with this game.

Can someone explain to me just what exactly it is? It looks like a Lego MMO, and I know someone made a working micro(macro?)processor in it. What do you do, just build stuff?

Apparently. You hit stuff until it turns to materials, then you mix and match materials to get other stuff, and you fight zombies, dig holes in the ground, kill pigs, burn down your friends' house...
I think.

I decided to go ahead and get into this game about a week and a half ago, after seeing one of my favorite YouTube users playing it and looking into the game (which convinced me it's would be something I'd love) I got it and I've spent countless hours on it now... It was a big help when DP went down.

Well, I find the gameplay addicting as hell and I for one get great enjoyment out of building huge monolithic structures... maybe it's just me >_>

Well, keep in mind it's in Alpha stage right now so there's a lot more that's going to be added to it...
I guess it *is* like a Lego type game, as of now. The only difference is you have to work for your materials. I can see this game getting a lot better as development goes on, and multiplayer looks interesting. It's like a sandbox game in it's purest... Because the main goal other than surviving the night is to do whatever the heck you please.

I bought it last week after a friend of mine was raving about it. You basically build stuff and try to survive. It's similar to Dwarf Fortress or Sim/building type games.

I'm watching some video footage...
I would not sit at my computer and play this for more than ten minutes or so. A handheld port, on the other hand...
Seriously, this could be the killer app on 3DS.

You basically mine materials and build (craft) stuff. In single player, there are enemies that come out at night in the darkness (or in dark caves) which you can either hide from, or attack. That's basically it for now, but there's much more coming in the near and far future.
This is a game you have to play before you judge it. If you like building stuff, this game is for you. If you like exploring, this game is for you. It's simple & fast, and once you know how to start out it's easy to pick up and play.
Ryaan, let me know if you want to play online some time.

I already play WoW. One addiction is enough thank you. ;)
I did see a video for this and it's something I could get into. My cousin said I should stay FAR away from it because he's familiar with how I play RTS games like Age of Mythology and Warcraft III. The way I play those games is NOT how they're meant to be played, as I cut down every last tree, mine every node, and gather every single resource possible on the game map. A game like Minecraft practically hands those kinds of things to me a on a silver platter and his assessment is if I started playing, I would easily find myself unemployed. :p

Love it! One of my favorite games in years, creative and fun.
