Walmart. I had the big one for little over a week and I got the small one set up just yesterday. I was going to make a thread sooner but I felt like I was just going to get reemed out for making it. But I decided to make it after setting up the little shelf.

I much prefer media shelves over book shelves...

There's 3 separate units here. They run about $150 a piece at Best Buy. Each individual shelf is adjustable so I have about 20 extra pieces still laying around. Here's the old Amazon page (http://www.amazon.com/Atlantic-38435182-Oskar-BluRay-Cabinet/dp/B0009IC8YY).

Yea, the reason I went with book cases, was because they are cheap and effective. my two book cases together cost little over 40 bucks. Around 27 for the big one, and 16 for the little one.

That looks real nice, but what about when you want to play that SNES cart on the very bottom of the third stack? I know how silly it sounds, but the PITA of dealing with that would stop me from choosing that game sometimes.

Anyway, you've got it way better than me right now... mine are all in boxes in the basement. Can't wait till I get everything out on shelves.

I understand the bookshelf thing. I have so much crap everywhere it's ridiculous. I finally pulled all of my games, well, most of them, and put them up in some bookshelves for now. Almost all of my games are doubled up in the shelves and my SNES games are 3 deep! I have a space issue for the time being. When I move? Proper game room time!

I have some black shelves like yours Urzu, but mine are broken up into 12x12 squares. They look cool but they are less than ideal for sure.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but there is a little space above the stacks, that allow me to push all the other games up slightly to allow me to get a grab on the one I want, on the bottom or not, and I don't have them in any real order so I just stick the one that was in the system back on top. Also you use your other hand to hold the stack to stop it from collapsing forward, not really too much work.

I went with some plastic utility shelves from lowes. that means that i can easily double stack my shit, which is needed now

I have the same shelves (from the first post), two of the big ones. However, I use them for books. I must say those media shelves look very nice, though.

My classic game collection fits in a large dresser drawer for the time being. Some day I'd like to have to buy some of those media shelves.

Why two snes genies?

If you really want to know, why I have two SNES Game Genies I'll tell you. I bought one. then a short time later I wanted to buy an NES Game genie off of Amazon, so I did, but the person sent me my second SNES Game Genie by mistake. I contacted the seller, and they gave me a refund and told me just to keep it. also I cut the tabs out of one of them to allow me to play SFC games on my SNES but this was before I got the balls to cut the tabs out of my SNES system which i eventually did.

Looks good to me! I have not one, but two separate gaming rooms in the house and this would be a clean, affordable solution, because games tend to migrate from the lower room to the upper room and back again....and the color is perfect.

Man those are sexy. Wish I had the floor space for such units. I'm actually looking to just building some cheap shelves (that is, 2x4s).

I love these shelves. I bought them from a video store closing in my area. I bought several. The first one was $40. I bought more and more. By the time the store closed, they were giving them away.

I buy "Billy" shelves from Ikea in black.

I don't like media shelves because they don't fit the hardware as well.

This exactly what I use, I have 5 of these large ones, and 1 medium size one. Same color too. Perfect for video game collectors.

Thanks. They're from Movie Gallery. Not sure if anyone else has/had them in their area but I think the same company also owned Hollywood Video and Game Crazy as well.
Since those shelves were made for DVD's, most video games fit well there, especially modern games. The wife and I have a couple daisy chained together(like they were in the store) to house our movie collection. Each shelf holds 80 DVD's. That, times 8 shelves equals around 640. The classic games like NES, SNES, and Genesis take up slightly more room, but those beasts can still hold a decent collection.

I'm definitely a fan of the 'build your own' shelves route Gameboy Color. I think more people should try building their own shelves. I think most would be surprised at how easy, fun, and efficient a solution it is. Those media shelves are also a very good solution as well, assuming you have the money and space for them.

Oh, and those are nice commercial shelves you snagged there Cobra Commander.

Personally, I'm really not a fan of deep shelves (such as book shelves) for storing game media. The inset depth seems like a terrible waste of space to me. I suppose if they're really cheap though, and you're on a budget, they're better than nothing.

I've always toyed with the idea of trying to find our where retailers get their shelves from - and see much they are.

I also use this. My main problem is that the middle shelves can't be spaced very close, so it's difficult to make things proportional. Plus, they cost $95 at my Best Buy, which I thought was pretty steep when you can get the Billy Bookcase from Ikea for about half that. Far from perfect.

This is a 2-year old pic of one of a pair of solid oak adjustable shelves I got at a garage sale for $60. Since then I've added the other one beside it and just about filled both of them up LOL
