Anyone picking this up? Going tonight to get my copy for the midnight release. A lot of people complained about the open beta in the Summer but the PC beta from a week ago was great. This game has the potential to be better than COD even though it won't put up COD sales numbers.
Danger Close did the SP while DICE (Battlefield Baby!) did the MP. Recent videos of the game look impressive.

My biggest like; you're not always the hero most games make you out to be. In most games, you would charge that hill in the video and Rambo everyone. In MOH, you're at the mercy of (in that video at least) friendly fighter planes.

The fact that they are embargoing reviews combined with the fact that the console beta was pretty bad leads me to believe this is going to be another not so great MOH game. Having said that, I have some Kmart gaming coupons and the $25 coupon they are attaching to it makes it a first day pick-up for me.

The PC beta/demo was far beyond the "beta" (more like an alpha) they released this Summer.
Even if the SP sucks, I imagine that the MP will play like BFBC2 which will be enough to keep me entertained until KZ3 next year.

I can't speak to the PC version. I can only speak to the console version which has problems both single player and multiplayer from some early leaked reviews I have seen. That would be consistent with the beta. Still, with Kmart practically paying me to take it, I will still be picking it up.

I'm not going to pick this up.
It seems to be yet another Battlefield or Modern Warfare type game. Medal of Honor, the older installments, were different because of what it dealt with and the atmosphere it carried.
This just doesn't seem like a true "Medal of Honor", just another common FPS of the likes of the games listed previously. I hope I am wrong, but I will wait and see before passing final judgement.

Will be picking the game up in around two hours now and I'll let you guys know how it is. Since I'm leaving on a vacation tomorrow with no internet connection, I'll probably spend most of my night playing multiplayer and tackle the campaign while I have no net.

I've got one word for you: DICE. :(

Well, you have to remember, MOH hasn't been true MOH in years. Airborne? Hah.

This game is for real. That's the only way I can sum it up right now. If you liked BFBC2, you'll love this.

I played this at the recent Eurogamer Expo here in London. Very nice set-up; about 15-20 flatscreens and PS3s in a row and team matches.
But despite it being "fantastic", i couldn't help to think "bloody hell, i am SO tired of warbased FPSs"... Not picking this up at launch at least.

The Joystiq review is up (someone I actually trust to reviews). Looks like the single player campaign is pretty good but the multiplayer is a joke.

Dice?

My thoughts exactly...for me, ever since Rising Sun, though the European Assault was slightly better than Rising Sun...

So it's pretty much what I thought...just another run of the mill FPS. A shame. :(

Dice?
DICE (one of the two developers) doesn't really equal Medal of Honor the way we all used to play it.

I was going to get it... until I found out they embargoed reviews until today. Huge red flag. So I went down on Saturday and canceled my preorder. I will be waiting until a price drop or bundle w/ DLC. In the mean time, I still have Halo: Reach keeping me more than busy at the moment.

IGN wasn't nearly as kind as Joystiq:

DICE has their A-teams working on Bad Company 2: Vietnam and Battlefield 3. Don't fool yourselves...MOH's multiplayer is DICE by name only. None of the key staff even touched this. EA made the call to slap on the DICE label.
Way too many superior online FPS's to waste money on another. Especially one that will have no community left in a month.

The reviews haven't been very great (http://www.industrygamers.com/news/eas-stock-falls-as-critics-skewer-medal-of-honor/) so far. They're pretty average now but theres the potential for them to sink even lower in a few days.

Completely agree.

I'm still feeling the online. There are complaints about a lack of options (a la COD) but I like it. Puts more emphasis on skill versus having superior weaponry. IMO, this feels like a teaser for Battlefield 3. Knifing animations are improved (hacking someone with an axe is a great feeling), level designs are solid (not many levels but imo, each level is quality), and the game is fairly balanced. Having a higher rank does not necessarily give you a great advantage; as I said, in many instances the game comes down to pure skill versus the tools of the trade. Could use more maps and a few more weapons but it's not a huge issue.
Single player is okay but nothing to brag about. Extremely short (I completed it on Hard in under five hours) and there are some very noticeable frame-rate drops in a few levels (I haven't experienced drops so bad since Soldier of Fortune: Payback). It could have been better but the product feels rushed; likely because this game would have been slaughtered if it had competed against COD next month. The Tier One mode gives warrants another play-through (if you die, you restart level, etc) but it's still fairly easy in the short amount of time I've played it.
Having the Limited Edition, I was delighted with the port of Frontline. That game still manages to kick my ass. This is a port (there are some minor improvements) but it's not a complete remake. It's your last-gen version of Frontline on 'roids. Worth a standalone pickup (think it's a $9.99 download) if you want to play the game again and don't have it or if you're a trophy/achievement whore. The Limited Edition also allowed me to get in on the BF3 beta, which is great.
Complaints: Having different engines for both modes does not work. It exposes flaws: can't prone in Frostbite, Unreal 3 looks like shit compared to Frostbite, etc. Short campaign that doesn't deliver as much as advertised (still an emphasis on being a hero versus being submerged as just another soldier), lack of difficulty on the campaign (EA put their easiest MOH and perhaps hardest MOH on the same disc), and an online mode that could use more content. Danger Close shouldn't do the next one; that honor should go to the IW refugees at Respawn. Even better, I think EA has a great opportunity to revive the WW2 genre (or perhaps Vietnam?) if they do a game next year.
Verdict: If you like BFBC2 and have grown tired of it, MOH is worth a pickup at the current price. Play it until Vietnam comes out and sell it for the $30-40 that it will command. If you're expecting a great SP, you can wait until this drops to $20-30. Best-case scenario is that I'll sell this when Vietnam comes, worst-case scenario is that I'll sell it next month after I have COD.

To me there's two different camps in console FPS game right now. Battlefield Bad Company 2 and the COD games. MOH falls more under the COD games than it does the BF games. This is completely a lone wolf type of game compared to Battle Fields squad based game play. The biggest drawback is that it doesn't offer anything that hasn't been done since COD4, in fact compared to COD4 this game still is lacking in features and gameplay modes. The leveling up and reward system just doesn't have much to keep me wanting to play.
The graphics are great though, very consistent all the way through. Haven't had too many problems playing online, in which Battle Field seems to be plagued with dropping games recently.
The way I'll put it is, if you're a fan of the Battlefield type of online play, you'll be disappointed and if you're a fan of the COD type of online play, you'll be disappointed too. Single player is pretty much what you would expect and there's nothing that really stands out about it.
Either wait for the Battlefield Vietnam DLC or Black Ops to come out (which is now less than 3 weeks away) because with those, you know that they're going to hit at least a certain standard that you'll like.
