Sega Nomad AC jiggle and hold

Hey everybody I got a Sega Nomad and the MK ac adaptor that's compatible with it, and when I plug it in i I have to jiggle it then hold it in place for it to actually power the handheld. I am assuming this is the DC IN connection that is faulty, has anyone dealt/fixed/replaced this issue?

Reflowing the solder on the power jack should fix it. If you or someone you know has a soldering iron then it's an easy fix. The only real problem is getting past the security screw that's way down the hole in the back to open it up.

Thank you for your help, I have a solder but honestly never have done anything with it and scared to test on the Nomad haha. Is there some guide online (prob not lol) or someone that does this as a service?

To reflow a solder joint, you basically just melt the existing solder then pull the iron away. Probally don't even need to add new solder. Shouldn't take more than a few seconds. It's probally the easiest fix requiring a soldering iron you can do.

You shouldn't have to hold the iron on there for too long. If you do then you could risk melting the plastic to the point where the metal parts move around and really mess it up. You would almost have to do it on purpose.

The problem with power jacks, is that constantly plugging and unplugging from them and having the wires pull on them will cause stress on the solder joints eventually causing weak contact. Which is why it ends up only working when you juggle it and holding it just right like you describe.

Another possible problem could be broken traces or traces that are pulled up from the board. In these cases you might have to solder jumper wires. More than likely it's just a bad solder joint though.

As far as finding someone else to do it...You're in Clifton, NJ right? The DP Store does repair service, doesn't it?

Dang... just called now he said he doesn't do it and that it's a motherboard issue.
