So i'm doing some ebay listing today and before throwing a game for sale I usually give it the once over with a Mr. Clean magic eraser. After finishing I noticed that the cart was rattling so I pulled out my SEGA game bit thinking a stray piece of plastic might be in there, and then I found these.

SECURITY STRIPS! Inside the game cartridge! I've never seen this before to say the least. Was this common practice?

Yeah, rental stores often would open carts and put them inside. I don't think it was done at initial retail, if that is what you are thinking.

Ah, I guess whatever sticker was left that I peeled off was from a video store. But yes, I was starting to wonder if this was ever done at retail. I know it was done later on in more recent generations though.

I know they're placed inside game cases.

I myself have only seen them inside ex-rental copies, never in anything purchased new.

I had a copy of Archon (NES) with a security strip under the label.

I guess there were a variety of measures that rental places used.

I've had Void stickers on NES cartridges before, but never this. Strange.
