General rule with these lists: if you think a top ten game is missing, then let us know what game to drop in place of it. Present your argument well, get it seconded, and it could affect the list... nay, the entire cosmic balance! Really.

For the FULL list of 32X games, check HERE (http://www.digitpress.com/lists/32x.pdf).

After Burner
Blackthorne
Knuckles Chaotix
Kolibri
Shadow Squadron
Space Harrier

Let's see...Virtua Fighter on the 32x was polygonal, right? Gosh I hate the Genesis versions. Yuck.

Agreed though I still think the SNES version was better. There are lots of subtle differences. Still, I'd take Mortal Kombat II over Doom or Kolibri.

Doom plays OK but it's missing a million things and I just can't get past two glaring problems: the giant border around the playfield and the fact that you never see the side or the back of a monster, only the front.

Kolibri looks great, sounds even better but as a game, I dunno... maybe I'm just missing the point but it seems like Defender to me. Defender with birds, insects, and frogs :)

That list seems spot-on to me.

I never played Kolibri -- I always wanted to, though. I love Ed Annunziata games.

Recently I've been running into a lot of RBI Baseball 95's which I had a much harder time finding initially. Now the World Series carts seem to have dried up. They're still out there though. One of our members was searching for it and there was one on eBay at that very moment.

The game is listed here as "R5" which is pretty damn scarce for a game that's less than 10 years old.

I'd say pull Doom for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Doom was a lackluster port, whereas Star Trek was a damn good port of the SNES title, with the better sound effects (maybe not music, admittingly), better looking ships, and pool!

My only complaint in the game is that you get up to speed too damn fast, but outside of that, its gotta be one of the top 32X titles.

I'm gonna second this... but Doom has its fans on 32X. Damned if I get that. If you love Doom, this is NOT the version to play.

Wow - No mention of AfterBurner.
*sigh*

No love for an old friend. Personally, I think it's hands down the best version of the game.

I know it's the reason why I've owned 2 32Xs.

I'd second Afterburner over Star Trek any day... have you played that game for more than 10 minutes? The same looping music, over and over and over again. The battle simulator is admittedly cool, but the rest of the game stinks in my opinion. Walk around, "talk" with students and teachers (pick one of a few badly worded sentences), go on a boring mission, no full-screen anything. I see why the SNES had to have a border around the screen to ease up on the processor like Strunt Track FX, but the 32x could have easily handled more.

NBA Jam T.E. should beat out Star Trek in my opinion... NBA Jam has come out so many times and in so many different variations that people tend to forget how much fun it was and still is. The 32x version is awesome... easily better than the Genny and SNES ports, right up there with the Saturn game, with no loading times.

DOOM is better than Star Trek, if nothing else.

I'll third After Burner (I was starting to think I was the only one who liked this game a lot), off goes Star Trek Starfleet Academy.

It's good to see people finally looking over this list. It had been "stuck" for quite some time.

Side note: it's "After Burner". Two words.

I'm going to bump this since I just got one and need to learn about it now :)

Now, here's a question, did any Genesis games get graphic enhancements if you popped it in the 32X or was it just a straight passthrough? I seem to remember hearing that somewhere.

Let me be one to solidify Chaotix's place on this list. I'm playing through it now and I'll be damned if it isn't a fun twist on the sonic series! Bonus levels are messed though.

That 32X list says Darxide was the only 32X game to exploit the use of texture mapped polygons but didn't MetalHead use texture mapped polygons also?

Straight passthrough. The most popular line of thought was that Genesis games would run faster but that was a misinterpretation of the 32X box. It merely says something to the effect of playing with more power and speed with 32X carts.

I spent a solid week playing through the Chaos Ring levels and the last one gave me a mess of trouble. I don't think the better ending was worth it so much as the accomplishment itself.

Well I will have to disagree,I thought the Super Nintendo's colors were to dry in the game and the 32X had much richer colors as well as the intro scene's in the original arcade that the SNES didnt have as you will see below

Still the SNES was a 100 times better than the shitty Genesis version

Tempo! Excellent, fun sidescroller. Brilliant colors & sounds. I just find this game to be very fun!

I loved Spiderman even with the slippery controls. It's blast to play and it's so fast. Sadly, most of the populace probably hasn't even played it to back me up. :(

RE: Spiderman: Web of Fire

I have this, I can't stand it. I could stick it in and give it a spin to confirm this, but I think it might break down the mental wall I've spent so many years building around the memory of it.

::shudder::

anyways, 32X games I like:

T-Mek - flawed but ok
Star Trek - pretty damned good, I have a problem with the small screen (like in doom) but it's alright.
Pitfall - decent sidescroller, was there anything different between the 32x version and the genny version?
Star Wars Rocked.

Colors nonwithstanding, I'd take the SNES version over the 32X version any day of the week. Especially Thursday.

The SNES version plays much better, and even without the intro screens, is a more faithful port of the coin-op IMO.

I've got your back, brutha. :) Spider-Man IS super fun, a nice little fast paced romp. It should easily knock Kolibri off the list. Kolibri, while beautiful to look at, isn't really much fun to play. And I really like the idea of a hummingbird game, but this one just falls short in the play department.

I liked Spiderman too. I was very dissapointed with past Spiderman games, but that one was a very good attempt. I thought it was the best one until the the psx and current versions came along. I wish there was a home version of the Arcade spiderman though. I loved that one.

knuckles chaotix sux, horribly, it is one of the worst sonic games ever. its too complex and difficult to be fun (hold b while running left then let go of left while holding b then when you pass you partner let go of b to get a boost)

Bumping this thread since I recently bought a Genny/Sega CD with a 32X, and I'm now searching the area looking for 32X games.

I'm sad that only one other person mentioned T-Mek. It's the reason I wanted a 32X, as it's my favorite multiplayer arcade game. My best friend and I used to tear the crap out of each other playing in the environmental cab. It was so great to have a home version, but my previous 32X set-ups were just too unstable. The game always froze.

Kolibri is one I've been on the lookout for years now, but haven't seen it in the wild at all. The Spider-Man game also. I keep coming across copies of Metal Head, Star Wars, Motocross, and other sports games. I can never find any really interesting titles like Afterburner or Space Harrier.

I second this. The idea of a 32X Top Ten list without Tempo is shocking. I'd also like to nominate Cosmic Carnage. It's a fun fighter that first introduced me to the idea of destroying armor and pieces of clothing as you fight. Unique to this day, the game has a great feel to it.

My favorite 32X-game is Stellar Assault/Shadow Squadron, it's excactly what that horrible Star Wars-game should been. Other then that, I also like Chaotix, Virtua Fighter and Mortal Kombat 2. Cosmic Carnage is a terrible fighting game I think. It has so lame characters, boring and very slow gameplay which makes me just press alot of buttons to get over with the stages.

Luckily for me I found a World Series for $5 at a frea market, other than that one I haven't seen any either.

About 2 months ago a local store I work for had a copy in. The owner only got it because he knew I collect such things. I picked up a mint copy for 49 cents. Now that I look at amazon, I can see a USED copy can sell for well over 30.00.

Top ten? That's a challenge. lol

1. knuckles Chaotix
2. star wars arcade
3. zaxxon's motherbase 2000
4. virtua racing deluxe
5. doom
6. virtua fighter

and I have others, but don't like them.

3. After Burner
4. Space Harrier
5. NBA Jam T.E
6. Shadow Squadron
7. Tempo
8. Mortal Kombat II
9. Spiderman
10. Virtua Racing Deluxe.

I don't really like World Series Baseball starring Deion Sanders and I've never played Blackthorne. And Spiderman is a really mediocre game (filled with slowdown and sloppy hit detection, I wrote a review of it over at Sega-16) but it's somewhat fun.

Doing a list like this is hard considering this system didn't enjoy a large library. If I had to name a top ten though, Id do it based on how much stay power they would have with me. Being able to enjoy the game with others helps too. To me these are the cream of the crop for the system. It doesnt mean I think the other stuff is bad by any means, just that these are the titles I have the most fun with on 32X.
1. Virtua Fighter
2. Virtua Racing
3. AfterBurner
4. Space Harrier
5. Shadow Squadron
6. Wrestlemania The Arcade Game
7. Mortal Kombat 2
8. Star Wars Arcade
9. Kolibri
10. Primal Rage

That's a good list.
I remember when After Burner and Space Harrier were first released, they were surprisingly cheap, and I kept hoping that Outrun and Galaxy Force were in the works.
