Hello everyone,

I'm finally ready to get my SNES and begin collecting. I simply don't know where to start I suppose.

I'm looking for a SNES that's in its original packaging. I don't want the SNES to be yellow either. Two questions I have:

1) Where should I look?

2) Are there different variant boxes or packages of the SNES system that are more desirable than others?

For the most part, console packaging variations unless due to a full console revision (IE NES to NES 2 or SNES to SNES 2) don't really cause demand to spike in one direction or another. What I'd suggest, especially as someone getting into collecting, I assume that you are collecting the SNES because you used to play it and you really enjoyed it. If that is the case, look for the packaging variant either that you really wished you could get back in the day, or the one you used to have.

To me, it's all about the Mario World set -- that was what I remember seeing in the stores, and when I finally got my SNES for Christmas that was the one waiting under the tree for me. I held onto mine, and that attachment makes it in my opinion the best one to have.

That's what I'd suggest starting with -- get what you remember, and then if you collect everything and you want to get more variants, branch out then.

If the SNES Mario Set is the one you remember, I've got one at the GOAT Store here:

http://www.goatstore.com/Products/Nintendo/Super_Nintendo/221003/Mario_World_Console_Set/

If you are looking for a different type, eBay is probably the best bet. Also, be aware that console packaging gets significantly harder to find every generation it goes back -- the earlier the console, the less likely someone kept the box and the more likely price tags were stuck right onto the boxes at the stores. You will pay a premium for a good box -- but that's really true with any Nintendo console, as they've always used pretty cheap packaging.

Hope that helps, enjoy the hunt!

Thanks for the advice. I can't remember which one I had as a teenager. My youth was pretty well dominated by the NES. If I can find a mint condition box I know I can keep it that way.

I'm not even sure my Samsung LN32b460 LCD TV will work with the SNES but I don't have any room for another TV so I'll have to make it work or figure something out.

If you have either composite video or S-video in, those will work. If you happen to have an N64 or GameCube console (Excluding the GameCube Component Cable), you can use the exact same cords on the SNES.

I have a bazillion things hooked up to an LCD TV. Most of it looks just fine too.
