Of these two systems, which one is the better of the two to keep? Need to sell one and can't decide. The JVC has very little use than the CDX, but the CDX works fine. Any thoughts or comments are appreciated, thanks.

CDX is first party, so I would trust that a little bit more. Both are equally useable though, unless of course you want to use the CDX as a CD player or something.

Here is the summation from my years of reading on this forum:
The CDX is sleek, sexy, and a great machine. If it breaks, you are boned because it is very difficult to find parts for and even harder to actually repair.
The X'eye is big, but still waaaaay better than either Gen/CD combo. It can be repaired relatively easily if it breaks.
I have a CDX only because I've never found an X'eye in the wild. Of course, if I did find one I'd probably keep both.
I'm guessing InsaneDavid will chime in here as I believe he has quite a bit of experience with both.

I personally prefer the appearance of the X'eye over the CDX. The X'eye is a reliable system, and the lasers are easy to find/replace if need be.

I have both of them so I'll give my 2 cents. While I like the compactness of the cdx, it doesn't leave much for modding. Having the a/v cable come out of the side detracts from it a little. The most I could get out of it was an internal s-video mod. The x'eye on the other hand, had plenty of room inside of the case so I did all crazy sorts of stuff to it. I redid the bios so it can run megadrive and mega-cd games with the flip of a switch. It boots up as the Wondermega when in Japan mode. Not having to shave down the cartridge slot is a huge plus. I also put component and s-video on so its about as maxed out as it gets.
If you can spare the space, I'd keep them both. If you don't plan on modding either of them, the cdx is definitely a space saver. It's about a third of the footprint of an x'eye.

I have had both and sold the CDX. One of the problems with the СDX is that there are a few games that don't work on it. The two I remember are Terminator CD and Jurrassic Park CD. Terminator is one of my favorite Sega CD games. My X'eye seems to work better than my СDX did but that could be just because the CDX had been used more. Other than that I like both systems about equally.

Lots of good arguments for both sides, here.
I just purchased an X'Eye, and I absolutely love it. It's a very attractive, well-built machine. I was never sold on the design of the Sega CDX, to be honest.
If I was in your shoes, I'd sell the CDX - only because the X'Eye seems to be a little harder to come by, and thus tougher to re-buy if you so desired.

I have both and pretty much stick with the X'Eye.
The CDX is a small and sexy compact system, but the X'Eye is better. As Stingfellow already mentioned, the CDX will not play Jurassic Park or The Terminator for the Sega CD, but the X'Eye will and they are both excellent games.
The CDX also restricts you to using Sega's AV cord. With the X'Eye you can use Sega's AV cord or you can use the standard Yellow/White/Red universal AV cord.
Also the X'Eye seems to have much better video output than the CDX. If you try to play Ys III and watch the intro on the CDX, when the pillars scroll by the edges of them become blurrey and get a rainbow effect. It's subtle but noticeable. On the X'Eye they dont become blurry or get the rainbow effect. The edges of the pillars are solid and look as they should.
The X'eye is bulkier than the CDX but it is better in every respect. Easier to mod, more compatible, uses universal AV cords, and has better video output.

Biggest problem with both is if you lose the AC adapter they are a pain to find replacements for.

The CDX doesn't have the same sound quality as the X'EYE. If you have it hooked up to good speakers, the X'EYE is the best for Genesis sound.

The CDX has inferior audio and video. Also, hooking up a 32x to it is awkward. Finally, the X'Eye has a larger cartridge slot, which can accomodate Japanese cartridges (although locked out games still won't work).
I do have to say, Terminator works perfectly fine on my CDX.

I can't vouch for Terminator. I've only heard it doesn't work with the CDX, but thats awesome if you say it does. I have Jurassic Park however, and it locks up after the first screen on the CDX but plays perfectly on the X'Eye.

I'll vote to keep the CDX. Because it's awesome.
Also, you can't use the Xeye as a discman. Think about that.

Aesthetically wise, I choose the CDX. It just looks so damn spiffy. The XEye, on the other hand, is ugly IMHO. I have the original JVC Wondermega and the XEye was the Wondermega 2 in Japan and, compared to the original, it's just a ugly step down. Performance wise is a different story. I owned a CDX but never owned the XEye. I myself only had problems maybe twice when playing The Terminator on the CDX. You have read all the little problems that plague the CDX and certain areas where the XEye seems to a wee bit better performance wise. *sigh* After all that, I'll go with the CDX just because it is sexier :)

How's the sound on the xeye? I just picked one up today without any cords and was wondering if I should mod it for better video.

Interesting topic. I picked up an x'eye from a friend but wanted to get an cdx because of it's size. Maybe it's not really worth the extra money though. As far as the x'eye is I can tell you it's a pretty solid system.

Yeah I have been looking for an adapter for over a year. LOL One day.

It's supposed to be pretty good; on par with cdx but not quite as good as the laseractive. If you can mod it for s-video or component, you'll be set for when Pier Solar comes out.

Never had any issues with my CDX. Works like a charm with everything and looks great. Plus it's WAAAAAAAAAY more compact...and to me that matters!

True but having the a/v cable come out of the side kinda kills some of the space savings.

I've been using one of these with no problems.

I have both the CDX, and the X'Eye, and I honestly can't tell much of a difference in the sound.
I do however notice that my "High Definition Graphics" Model 1 Genesis blows them both away in the sound department, especially the bass.
On my X'Eye I am running component video, the picture is just absolutely amazing.
As far as which one to keep, and which one to sell, I guess that just depends on how much money you need. The CDX normally seems to go for more than the X'Eye, but lately the prices on the X'Eye has gone up. It seems that when they come with the proper hookups and AC Adapters, and a controller or two, the price goes up a lot. If you are just selling the bare console, expect to get 50-100 for a working X'Eye, and 75-100 for a CDX, depending on the buyers moods at the time.
I was lucky and got a CDX AC Adapter from someone on these forums, it works on both my X'Eye and CDX. I don't use my CDX, it stays put away in it's storage bag away from all the dust. I place a higher value on my CDX, it's minty fresh, and hardly been used, while my X'Eye is a little banged up, but still works great.
The X'Eye is not as indestructable as people think they are. They do have laser issues, but what laser drive that's 15+ doesn't?
Also, keep an eye out for X'Eye's that have lid switch problems. Sometimes you can get them cheap because of that, and it's a super easy fix.
