I was able to snag iDOS this morning. I'll write up a review tomorrow and see how it runs on the iPad.

I was very surprised to see it pop up on Gizmodo. I have been following the author of the app on his website and forums for a little while before it made it to the app store.

I don't have an iPad yet (waiting for v.2) but I bought a copy anyway on itunes.

If anyone is curious the dospad (was renamed to iDos) forums are here:

I can't believe this thread hasn't got a single response (other than Zemmix's).

It runs pretty good. I posted a couple of updates on my blog, one about running old school demos and the other about running text adventures. I'll have to try some games tonight and see how they work. As with any iOS program, YMMV when it comes to using "buttons" on a touch screen as a controller, but yeah ... it works.

I guess I don't understand why it would be taken down.. if they didn't like it how did it get there in the first place?

Apparently the people that approve apps are not the same people who remove them. Removing apps is often done after people complain and/or report violations of Apple's TOS. Whoever approved it probably had no idea what DosBox even was.

Apparently it was removed because the app allows users to access the root iOS directories. If they lock it down to a specific folder, it has a chance of being approved.

sounds neat, how do you get files onto the ipod?
