View Full Version : Best classic TMNT game?

I've been on a TMNT game kick lately, having recently scored copies of both TMNT IV (SNES) and The Hyperstone Heist (Genesis). I don't recall seeing a poll about what the best classic TMNT game was (if there is, just let me know - and if I missed any games, let me know), so I was wondering - what do you think the best classic TMNT game was?

I had to vote for the original arcade game. It remains my favorite out of the bunch to this day, and despite the decent NES port (extra levels and all), I wish Konami had done an arcade perfect port of the game on a later system. Playing it on MAME is one thing, but I would have loved to play it in all its arcade glory on my TV (along with The Simpsons, X-Men and Aliens, as long as I'm wishing).

I will say that the new games look pretty damned cool...

I really enjoyed the TMNT games for NES and SNES, with Turtles in Time being my favorite. Tournament Fighters just plain sucks though.

I'll have to go with the original arcade game.

and I think Tournament fighters on the NES is GREAT!

I loved TMNT IV. First good game (other than Super Mario World) that I had for my SNES. And thank you, this poll reminded me that I only need tow more to complete my console collection. Always wanted to play TF for NES...

It has to be TMNT 3 The Manhatten Project. They took the arcade game an improved upon it.

I picked Turtles in Time. Near perfect arcade port and took everything that made II and III on the NES winners and improved it. Tough call.

In order from best to not best

TMNT (arcade) Love it
TMNT IV: Turtles In Time (SNES) Like the arcade games...just played better, looked better.
TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist (Genesis) Read what I said for SNES TiT
TMNT II: The Arcade Game (NES) I liked this a lot in 1990/91, but it's not aging well. Just too easy, and they could have done it better.
TMNT: Fall Of The Foot Clan (Gameboy) Underrated. Easy, but good game!
TMNT (NES) I wasn't sure whether or not I liked this when I rented it. I have it now, don't play it much....but it has more depth and challenge than the rest, so maybe it should be near the top. It's different.
TMNT III: The Manhattan Project (NES) Seemed like a rehash of the NES 'TMNT II'.

The following I have never played..I don't intend on playing the 'tourney' games, either...

TMNT II: Turtles In Time (arcade)
TMNT II: Back From The Sewers (Gameboy)
TMNT III: Radical Rescue (Gameboy)
TMNT Tournament Fighters (NES)
TMNT Tournament Fighters (SNES)
TMNT Tournament Fighters (Genesis)

I voted for SNES Turtles IV....but Turtles 2 was close behind

The first one I could never get past the part where you drive around in the turtle van

Manimal, personally I'd say that Tournament Fighters for the SNES was really well done. A solid fighting engine, clean graphics, and a good lot of special techniques. I don't know about the NES version, but I'd highly recommend staying away from the Genesis incarnation: it sucked horribly. How come Konami couldn't just port it more directly instead of making a whole other game that SUCKED?

Turtles II on the NES was one of the classics.

The only one I ever owned was TMNT II: Back from the Sewers for the old Game Boy. Actually, it had some of the best graphics (and pretty good sound) for the old B&W system, I'd say. Its prequel wasn't too bad either (for a first-gen title, anyway).

I've never played TMNT III GB, but I've heard good things. Apparently it's one of those freeform-style things.

Incidently, was TMNT III PC different from TMNT III NES? I had the impression it was more like the original NES TMNT.

I loved the original Turtles arcade game but once you put lots of credits in (thanks to MAME!) you realise how repetitive the game gets and it's a real money-eater! Or maybe I'm just bad at the game.....

My favourite version was actually on the Spectrum - which I believe was a port of the NES game.

and I think Tournament fighters on the NES is GREAT!

You must be digging through the trash behind the pharmacy again.

Or just plain smoking crack.

That game is complete and total garbage.

The SNES one on the other hand, very underrated fighter.

I think it played fine considering it was on NES. What more can be expected out of it? It's only competition was Urban Champion and maybe Double Dragon 1 (vs mode).

TMNT III: The Manhattan Project (NES) Seemed like a rehash of the NES 'TMNT II'.

It was in the same style yeah, but so was TMNT 4. Has anyone really looked at NES TMNT 2? If you unleash an attack on a Foot you'll only hit him twice while animation makes it look like a 3rd hit should connect but it doesn't. Foot just ignore it and move in. All you have to do throughout the game is the special slice attack. It's quicker than the jump kicks and weapon hits. TMNT 3 solved those problems. All your hits will connect properly and you can't abuse your special attack without penalty.

The original tmnt game is way better than the arcade versions though they are still fun too. The original has a better story line and is just awesome. the arcades for nes are still fun and turtles in time is ok, but the original for nes is the best. Thats all I got to say.

was the original TMNT I (NES version) released on Famicom? I love the arcade version the original TMNT for NES. I like the arcade version for its bright, big colorful graphics. And like other beat em ups from the time it was 4 player action with each player controlling a unique character. Damn konami really needs to bring out the WWF, Turtles Arcade Games, and Simpsons onto one of the systems with 4 controller ports. I would buy that in a second...

Anyway the first NES game can be frustrating but I really like the darker style drawings they used for the characters. It was much like the original comic book rather than the cartoony tv style versions. It was a unique game with more features.

Yeah, you can find it here (http://www.kitanaka.net/~tiff/rc/fc_rcnumber.htm). The entire list was translated into Japanese by a friend of mine, and he added either box or cartridge shots for most of the games. Gekimaden Ninjaden is here (http://www.kitanaka.net/~tiff/rc/kds_gn.jpg) - if that link doesn't work, just look up the serial number KDS-GN[/url]

It's by far TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan for Gameboy. It had multiple endings!!! If you play all the way through the game from level 1 to 5, you get a good ending, but if you start at any other level, you get a different ending. There were also hidden mini-games. They were all pretty easy, but fun and added a small twistr on the game. So far, no turtle game has even came close to doing those.

TMNT II for NES is my personal favorite. Turtles In Time is a close second. I also have to mention the first TMNT for the NES. The only thing I didn't like about that one was that the underwater levels were a pain in the ass! LOL

TMNT IV was my favorite. I just loved going through that one on multiplayer. My friend and I used to play through it all the time when we were bored. It was one of the first games that I can recall putting it on all the hardest settings to give us a challenge. Oh, and throwing foot soldiers at the screen is what more video games of today need. :)

I voted for the SNES version of Turtles in Time. The arcade version is also part of that. But since I was more experienced with the SNES one, I chose it. I never played the Arcade one and know that it is slightly different.

The original Arcade TMNT is close second. The arcade version. I like the NES version but opposite of the above, I am more experienced with the arcade version.

Both arcade versions though are high on my list of cabinets I'd want to have if I could afford them.

I would have to say TMNT 1 for the NES. GREAT game. One of my favorite NES games at that. It also seems to be the odd man out in the Turtles series, much like Adventures of Link and Super Mario Brothers 2 (the U.S. Mario that is based off of Doki Doki: Panic), and that is why I like it a lot. I seem to like games that are different from the rest of the series.

Anyway, I like the game a lot. :P

I'll go with the arcade, because it was the best looking one in its day, next would be TMNT 3, I played that one for hours as a kid, turles IV was pretty cool too. The nes original and TMNT II didn't age well and are pretty repetative now.

TMNT 2: The Arcade Game (NES) got my vote. i cannot begin to think about how many hours i have logged into this game. as kids, my friend and i would spend countless hours with it, regardless of how many times we beat it.

i always wanted to pick up TMNT4 for snes, but still haven't to this day....

also, a runner up goes out to TMNT: Hyperstone Heist for Genesis. i got this one about a year ago and played teh piss out of it. follows the traditional formula well.

I'll have to go with the original TMNT for the nes. I got this game for my birthday soon after it came out, and I've loved it ever since even though it's such a pain in the ass to beat. TMNT II the arcade game was a good game, but it was a heavily watered down version of the arcade game. TMNT IV was an awesome game as well, and is probably my second favourite turtles game overall, with TMNT (arcade) a close third.

TMNT IV: Turtles In Time (SNES) - The best of the series hands down

TMNT (NES) - I've always really liked this one. Hard as hell, but rather fun

TMNT III: The Manhattan Project (NES) - yeah, it might just be part 2 with better graphics, but I've always found it to be alot more fun to play.

TMNT II: The Arcade Game (NES) - Good, but the 3rd game is much better.

TMNT (arcade) - really good stuff.

TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist (Genesis) - good, but nothing really new.

TMNT Tournament Fighters (NES) - decent, but nothing fantastic

TMNT Tournament Fighters (SNES) - not really all that good.

havent played

TMNT II: Turtles In Time (arcade)
TMNT: Fall Of The Foot Clan (Gameboy)
