Since I saw this amazing Sears deal when I went to QJ.net, thought I might start up this years Black Friday thread. I may pick up the PSP 3000 at $129.99. Great price.
The PSP 3000 has finally been hacked, just not released. Another thing is that my current PSP has started ghosting recently(ontop of the UMD drive not working) and either I'm OCD and can't stop looking for it while I'm playing, or it's getting worse which I think is the case. Since the PSP 3000 has an interlaced screen then maybe it has no ghosting.

What? The hackers are so pro that they've hacked a system that hasn't been released yet?

I meant the hack hasn't been released yet.
Anyways. Can someone move this over to the deals section. Accidently posted it in modern gaming.
Oh goody! I'm going to buy a stack of Monster HDMI cables!

... Why not just go to monoprice.com? Their selection is just as good and they have better quality at about a fifteenth of the price of a Monster cable. :P

This.
Monster LCD cleaner at my favorite store: $25. Same combo at Monoprice...less than two bucks.

Haha oh no no no, I'm aware that I can get the HDMI cables for cheap. :D Getting these Monster cables will serve a far greater purpose to my master plan! ^_^

I don't believe the PSP3000's screen is interlaced (I seem to recall at the time that Sony confirmed it was progressive and the effect that looked like interlacing was a side effect of improving things like the color depth and blurring), it just happens to give off that appearance in certain situations.
Be aware that the 3000 doesn't eliminate ghosting. It's far reduced from what it was on the 1000, but like any LCD screen, it's still present (Fire up Namco Museum for example on the 3000 and watch the colored stars in Galaga largely lose their vibrant colors once gameplay starts and they're scrolling quickly in the background).
Still, the ghosting is a lot less evident then on the 1000 (Never owned a 2000).

Ah, a scheme to flip these during the holiday season, eh?
As a full-time eBay flipper... I advise against doing it. You're not going to get much, because you're not going to be the only one that does that. :P

Back to the topic at hand.
Less than 3 weeks away and the only gamer-relevant ad is Sears? What gives? Are companies holding the ads back for some goofball ass reason?

Weren't they leaked way ahead of schedule last year? Retailers might be trying to avoid that from happening this year.

But what damage comes if they're leaked? They're not exactly the CIA files on JFK.

It could affect sales before Black Friday at least somewhat so I'd assume that's why most of them don't get leaked before close to BF.

But how? People buy the thing for sale somewhere else... for more? Whether they release it now or later, those who pour over BF ads are going to find the best deal and what they want the day before.
I'd say get in the minds of the shoppers early. I know we've dwindled down to going to 2 stores tops that morning. Can't be bothered, especially considering how many sales are online anyway.

True, but the argument is that if consumers know about the discount price too early, they will avoid buying the item until the sale. In video games in particular, this can be a problem as publishers would like to maximize sales in the release week at full MSRP, instead of getting a huge sales boost during Black Friday when they have to at least partially subsidize the disount through retailer rebates on wholesale orders. Similarly, some stores don't generate their ads until the very last minute and they will arguably skew their sales to divert traffic from their competitors whose ads have been leaked. Honestly, I can't imagine that either issue causes a massive sales loss, but I can understand the argument. After all, Black Friday is all about getting people into stores not for the loss leader stuff, but for the regular priced stuff. If the ads are matched by too many competitors or leaked so early that Amazon and others match before the day of the sale, they will loose valuable foot traffic and sales.

Oooooooooo :onfire: I'm actually going to resell them to the people at my college who are eager to spend the extra cash for a "monster" cable. It's in high demand around here and they're "like totally" willing to pay the high price for the "official" cable. xD

I don't entirely understand it, but I work for a company that puts retailers' circulars & catalogs online, and I can confirm that they have a SHIT FIT if anything leaks early.
That being said, it seems like they're going up earlier this year than previous years, and the Walmart toy catalog was allegedly leaked, though I didn't go looking for it.

The economics of it is simple. If you wait to release your ad, you can see what your competitors are doing and then use this information to your advantage when you finally release your ad. I think there are significant informational gains here.

Well, sure, but most of the retailers have already had their catalogs in the works for MONTHS, so they aren't really able to adapt to the competition without big, expensive changes.

I can't tell, it looks like it though, did they release them individually?

Those fucking hobbit movies were boring as hell. All it was, was a bunch of people walking, three movies of people walking to a fucking volcano.
Though I might as well go to Target to pick up a PSP3000 since it's $2.00 less and you get a $10 gift card for purchases over $100 while supplies last. Plus Target is closer. I might look and see what other Bluray movies are on sale.

I think what he is trying to say is that there is only one "Return" and it ain't "of the King", it's "of the Jedi". :D

I know it wasn't BF but that Buy two, get one free deal was great. Their BF ad has a lot of great stuff in it too. Unfortunately, there's not one near my house nor would I go out and try to fight someone over a cheap LCD TV on that day.

Porch Monkey for LIFE!
I don't know if anyone has seen the Pillow Pets (pillows with animal heads attached) they have for sale EVERYWHERE. Mall Kiosks, Best Buys, Targets, EVERYWHERE. But whenever I see one I simply have to point and shout out "Pussy Trolls!".
I ventured to Wal-Mart right before Midnight and it was a madhouse. Around 11:50 people started going apeshit and ripping plastic off of the movie pallets because they couldn't wait 10 fucking minutes for the sale to start. Man if I they had me on the clock, that shit would have not happened, I would have treated them like the little children they were. I blame it more on the management tho, since they could have simply closed the store until midnight and (much like Toys-R-Us did) let 50 people in at a time as a form of crowd control.
Anyway, I grabbed a lot of stuff and ended up leaving most of it behind, but I'm sure I'll be grabbing stuff again while I'm there cleaning up the chaos later today.

Don't know if they are still available, but beginning at 1am Dell had a PS3 bundle for sale that I ordered.
$299, just like every other (non-Move) PS3 system, but with an additional extra:
160Gb system
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (game)
Karate Kid (Blu-Ray)
PixelJunk Shooter voucher
AND: Pre-order Tron Evolution (Game)
Every other PS3 bundle I saw included either the exact above minus Tron, or another two games, or one other game and one movie. No other bundle I found included 2 games, plus the Shooter voucher, plus a movie.
The inspiration for me to buy a PS3 was to get the Blu-Ray player, so I'm happy with the deal.

I didn't want to join the hoopla of the door buster sales but had my eye on a few items that could be (possibly) purchased all day. Gamewise I didn't snag much as I've already got a solid backlog:
Target:
Dragon Quest IX (DS)-$17.99 got this for my nephew
Wal-Mart:
Red Steel 2 (Wii-Stand along game)-$10
Thinking of maybe hitting up Gamestop today as one of them has Excitetruck and I've been jonesing for that. Just gotta check the finances after my non-gaming purchases yesterday.
