what type of encoder is used for the component video?

You can get component out of anything that provides rgb output. I used the elm-chan encoder for the component output.

Quick question on the Genesis...

Since I'm assuming that you tapped the RGB signals directly from the video encoder, Is the 32X system still fully compatible?...I hear mixed comments about this with the Chan RGB/YUV schematic...

To be honest, I have no idea. I don't have a 32x to test with and I don't know how the 32x uses the video information. If you can shed some light on how it works, I'll have a good idea on whether it would work or not.

Should work fine for genny games but it wont output component for 32x.

The 32X system grabs the Sync and RGB signals from the Genesis...These signals go to the 32X system RGB over-underlay and the 32X encoder to generate the 32X mixed video signals....

Is there a feasible mod for better NES1 picture? What about Turbo Duo s-video?

There is an RGB mod for the toaster NES but I'm not offering this service. I can do S-video for turbo duo if you want that.

Oh ok. Thanks. I'll need to find a packing box.

I believe I'm after NES2 A/V, stereo s-video for turbo duo and neo geo. It's fine to attach a unibios if you've got it handy. Not essential as I only own one game.

I don't really have a preference of standard or custom connectors. But for the latter be sure I get the right cables. Don't vanish either, I may want to upgrade later. This TV lacks RGB input being a US model and doesn't accept 240p over component. Yet I'd be in a pickle were nobody around to make them. No skill, parts, or way to identify pinouts.

I like the custom cables since it makes for a much cleaner presentation. I try to make the output somewhat intuitive to the original pinout. Something like this for example.

Neo-Geo/Genesis 1/Master System

original -> new
1. Mono Audio - > Audio Left
2. Ground -> S-Video C
3 Composite Video -> no change
4. +5v -> S-Video Y
5. Green -> Component Y
6. Red -> Component Pr
7. Composite Sync -> Audio Right
8. Blue -> Component Pb

Yeah. I should invest in a region modded Sega CDX, expensive as that'd be. With my Master System converter 2 it'll offer more than this vanilla Genesis 2 + CD2 does at less than a quarter the form factor.
